Mary-Ann Thompson

Mary-Ann Thompson founded Highland Active Therapy in September 2009 after settling in Nairn earlier that year.  Prior to this she spent 10 years working as a scientist in Kent.

During her time in Kent, Mary-Ann developed a passion for sport and outdoor pursuits (running, cycling, climbing, adventure racing.......).  Whilst preparing for her first Marathon (Loch Ness 2004) Mary-Ann discovered the benefits of Sports Massage, which fuelled her interest in the topic.

In 2006 Mary-Ann qualified with an ITEC in Anatomy, Physiology & Holistic Massage, but was keen to develop a greater understanding of the body to effectively treat aches, pains and injuries.  As a result she started part-time study with Active Health Training, based in Manchester and in April 2007 obtained an Advanced Diploma in Sports Therapy, passing with distinction.

Since completing her training in 2007, Mary-Ann has continued to add to her skills by attending Advanced Massage workshops and courses each year.  She has also supported numerous sporting events in association with Athletes Angels, including the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge, Barnardo’s 50km Challenge, The First Monster and the Loch Ness Marathon.

Mary-Ann is a Professional Member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, through which she is also fully insured.
