1000th Patient Treated
20 January 2013

NHS Highland’s Cardiology service has reached a milestone with the 1000th angioplasty patient being treated at Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

This means that, since the expansion of the cardiology service, 1000 patients have been treated locally in Inverness instead of having to travel to Aberdeen or further afield.

Professor Steve Leslie and Dr Jamie Smith provide this service in NHS Highland.  Professor Leslie said: “Since the service was set up, as many as 400 patients a year no longer have to travel to Aberdeen to get treatment.
I am delighted that we have reached 1000 patients as that is 1000 patients who have been treated closer to home, by staff they know.”
