Act FAST
30 January 2012

What is FAST?

FAST is a campaign to help people recognise a stroke – and act ‘FAST’ to save lives.

FAST is an assessment of three specific symptoms of stroke.
If a person fails any one of these tests, get help immediately by dialling 999

F = Facial weakness - can the person smile? Has their mouth or eye drooped?
A = Arm weakness - can the person raise both arms?
S = Speech problems - can the person speak clearly and understand what you say?
T = Time to call 999

Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon said: “Stroke has long played a part in the premature death of too many Scots. The more people who can recognise the warning signs, and act FAST to get help, the better.”
