Scientists Discover How CRT Device Works
14 September 2011

Scientists claim to have discovered how a certain type of pacemaker works at a biological level, which they say could pave the way for better heart failure treatments in the future.

Several years ago, an implantable pacemaker called cardiac resynchronisation therapy was developed that synchronised the heart’s rhythm in people with heart failure. Now researchers say they have a better understanding of how the process works on a biological level.

They say their findings could lead to drugs or gene therapies which mimic the effect of a pacemaker.
