Research

Here in the Highlands, our doctors and nurses not only spend their time treating our medical needs but are also at the forefront of medical research.

Doctor Jenny Jones

Delighted to inform all our readers that Jenny Jones who undertook the Reflexology Study has passed her PhD - so it is now officially Doctor Jenny Jones - Congratulations!

Some of the current research -

Refloxology Results Published

The results of the refloxology study in which some of you kindly participated have now been published in the Journal of Complementary Therapies in Clinical Practice.

Jenny Jones and her team from Stirling University found that when volunteers undergo reflexology massage of the heart point they exhibit a “subtle” improvement in cardiac output.   Jenny said the finding were “intriguing”, for at the moment we have no idea what caused the change.

Kudos must go to Jenny on her work which featured in the Daily Telegraph

[Ed - 'Heart to Heart' would like to extend its congratulations to Jenny and her team.   Like all good research Jenny's work opens the door to further avenues of research which can only broaden our knowledge and understanding of heart disease.]

Paridigm HF Study
Professer Leslie and his team at Raigmore Hospital, Inverness are currently participating in this international multi-centred drug trial.
It is hoped that the drug being studied in this PhaseII trial will prove of benefit to heart failure patients worldwide.
Several of our fellow Highland heart failure patients have volunteered to be part of this research study.

Reflexology Study
Having your feet gently massaged whilst you lie back and relax sounds like a wonderful indulgence, but several Highland heart failure patients are having this done in the interest of medical research.
They are participating in a study to see if the use of Reflexology can have a positive and measureable effect upon the heart.   Lucky them.
