The Dandy home to cartoon characters including Desperate Dan, the cow-pie eating cowboy, is about to be closed after 75 years. In its heyday between the 50's and 80's, the Dandy sold some 2 million copies each week as young fans lapped up stories of Desperate Dan and Korky the Cat. Sadly the Dandy has suffered a circulation decline as successive generations of children have grown out of the habit of reading comics, rather their free time is now given over to watching TV, playing video games or surfing the internet instead. A spokeswoman for Dandy publisher DC Thomson confirmed that the closure of the print title was being considered as part of a review of the company's magazine business, but they indicated that characters such as Desperate Dan would continue to exist online. Looks like my childhood is coming to an end - sad. Link: The Dandy
