For many of us with heart failure the help and support provided by those who care for us is invaluable and essential in maintaining our general wellbeing.
But in this, Carers Week, spare a thought for the sacrifices our carers make for our benefit. Too many unpaid carers are sacrificing their own health by putting off medical treatment while they look after someone, according to a new report, which found that caring had a negative impact on the health of almost nine out of ten carers in Scotland The report, launched to mark Carers Week, is evidence of a growing care crisis. It calls for better financial and practical support for the more than 650,000 unpaid carers in Scotland, so that they can look after the health and well-being of patients like us with a long term condition. Carers Week is calling for sustainable social-care funding, access to support services and for regular health checks to be offered to carers.
