At long last, the Scottish Ambulance Service and ambulance staff have reached an agreement over rest breaks, responding to emergencies and the money to be paid to staff for responding. Details of the agreement will be announced by the Health Secretary, Nicola Sturgeon, to the Scottish Parliament at Holyrood. Delighted as I am that this issue has been resolved, there remains a very bitter aftertaste. That such an essential and necessary service as the Ambulance Service could put lives at risk due merely to the intransigence of management and unions alike has severely dented the services reputation and good-name. Like all services, there are within the ambulance service many outstanding individuals whose professionalism and dedication are beyond reproach. Unfortunately they will be the casualties of this torrid affair, for they will be viewed in the same diminished light as the ambulance service as a whole.
Update: - Nicola Sturgeon's statement to the Scottish Parliament
