Canoeing on the lake at Foxlease
Towards the end of the 80s the Annexe required major refurbishment in order tc comply with new Fire Regulations. The interior was almost completely gutted. The rabbit warren of upstairs rooms were replaced by modern single and twin bedrooms whilst downstairs the campstore and cobbled entrance way were converted into spacious hostel accommodation, incorporating the original Canada room as a sitting/dining area.
The new accommodation, known as the Coach House, was officially opened in July 1989 by our President, H.R.H. Princess Margaret. who spent a memorable day at Foxlease. chatting to the hundreds of visitors who lined the drive and taking tea with the Guides and Guiders from B.G.I.F.C. who were camping or North Meadow site.
The "great storm" of 1987 caused damage tc sections of the swimming pool cover and some of the old beeches and oaks came down but thankfully all the buildings stood firm and strong.
Through a generous legacy left to Foxlease by . . .
