My mother was at the opening of Hautbois House, she was the Guider in charge of the Conservation Team of Rangers & Young Leaders; we spent the whole weekend clearing old undergrowth from the , now, paths that lead round the back of the house, planting a vegetable patch (no longer there) and chopping down overgrown ivy. I attend the 30th Celebrations and their archives contain photos I'd never seen before. Ruth Brown, House Manager when the Centre opened, allowed let me return for a month of work experience after I finished my GCSEs; I spent the month clearing ragwort/helping to sort donated camp equipment ready for hire, washing up in the kitchen with Jacqui Cant (who as since been County Commissioner for Suffolk) among other laborious tasks needed to maintain such a stunning property. I believe Freddie, who was the recently hired Groundsman at the time is still there. A few years before, 1980 I think, I camped with a Guide Company on the Lime Pits site.
