CLINICAL HYPNOTHERAPY

Hynotherapy is one of the oldest therapies dating back four thousend years.  Today hypnosis is used successfully not only in surgery, dentistry but also in personel development.

Being hypnotised is similar to being sleepy or in a daydream. It is a state of mind connected to deep relaxation, narrowed focus and deep suggestibility. Hynosis is an intermediate state between sleep and wakefulness. It may be likened to a state in which one acts intuitively instead of intellectually. It is a state of consciousness which, in itself, is not a therapy.

Hypnotherapy is hypnosis used for therapeutic purposes. It employs the unconcious mind to find solutions to problems. The therapy part of a hypnoherapy session starts after the hypnosis has been used to induct the trance. The Hypnotherapist makes suggestions that help the unconscious mind achieve goals or remove problems. During hypnosis, the body is very relaxed but the thoughts become very attentive and focus is enhanced. It is the focus on therapist's suggestions that brings about the therapeutic effect.

Given the complexity of the human condition, no list can be comprehensive, but the following are common motives for seeking teatment:

  • Increasing confidence
  • Breaking bad habits, eg smoking, nail biting
  • Removing phobias
  • Managing pain
  • Enhancing performance in artistic, sports etc
  • Controlling weight and improving eating habits
  • Curtailing excessive alcohol use

To gain the best results from Hypnotherapy the client has to want to change for themselves, and not be under pressure to change. For example when stopping smokeing.
