Conversations / moto gp

by @FlyingFleaMoto - 19:39 on 27 January 2012

Great conversations can happen at anytime and one such conversation happened at this morning. The conversation took place at the site of many a great conversation between me and Nick Barrett, in the garage at 8.30am with a ciggie and a brew. This conversation as so many previous ones is us putting the worlds to right in our own way.

The conversation quickly turned on to Moto GP with talk about our annual Fantasy Moto GP challenge. Normally we do this between ourselves but thinking of a putting a challenge out on the world wide web to see who’s best, just for a bit fun. So if you think you are up for the challenge we would love to hear from you.

Our brews were finished yet we were still talking moving on to the riders in Moto GP, and we started with talking about the top 2 contenders, Stoner and Lorenzo. We share the view that come the first round they will be at the front of the pack which could set the trend for the rest of the season. But can anyone challenge them?

I feel this year will be another one of frustration for Dani Pedrosa and he is going to need to be quite aggressive on the 1000 cc’s and also hope for an injury free season. Meanwhile after Lorenzo the next big threat from Yamaha is Ben Spies, but from rumours floating about Yamaha seem to think that the Bike is going to be at the level required but will Ben be at the same level? Fitness wise yes he will, but will he be able to convince himself that he can run at the front consistently?

2 Riders who not only will be they be battling the rest of the pack, but also their team mates are Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso. Can the Tech 3 bike really challenge for race wins and podiums at every event? Can Cal have a good second season and set up a team of 2 British riders, I would like to think he can and I will be having everything crossed for him this year.
During the conversation we turned our thoughts to Ducati and Nick made some interesting comments here. Ducati have been relatively quiet so far but with so many questions seemingly unanswered by the end of the 2011, we do fear a bit for what 2012 has in store for Ducati. But have you seen the new Panigale 1199 they have been working on? Wow is all I can say. For the 2012 season how much have Rossi and Burgess got inside the heads of the big wigs and players at Ducati? And have Ducati listened? We are really looking forward to the first round of testing to see just how far they have come from last year.

Time for me to go and enjoy my birthday weekend, but before I go did you know it is only 182 days as I write this to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. I have a couple of things to say about this, the first part is a random observation. Whilst floating about online I came across an Olympic countdown that could not disclose the location of the 2012 Games.... my mind wanders as to why not. Secondly I want to wish the best of luck to all the British athletes both in the run up to and during the games.

See you on the otherside of 28,

Matt
