Fire Advice
for those living near woodlands
Living near any forest or woodland can be a problem if a fire breaks out. Fires are most likely to occur after prolonged periods of dry weather. Over the last year we have seen devastating fires in Australia where many people have lost their homes.
At Tircoed Forest Village, near Swansea (pictured below), a planned planting programme was done by the Forestry Commission in a boundary area to reduce the risk of forest fire affecting homes. The programme included trees that were resistant to flame.
The above photo shows the close proxmity of the trees to homes and the need for thoughtful planning where there is a risk of a forest fire.
A search on the Internet can provide useful information on forest fire protection, and one such site is:-

The right trees can actually provide a living fire break, as well preserving the beauty of the woodland.

It is wise to look to the future and take action early so that it is possible to sleep more peacefully at night, knowing that reasonable precautions have been taken.
