‘Twas the match before Christmas
With all of us gathered,
All entries paid up and nobody blathered.
Mine was drawn first, out came 15 (eh?)
And Eric got 10, with Roger away.
There followed a scramble for all the best pegs
(Nobody wanted to be left with the dregs)
Golden-balls Bennett had pulled 22
And the grin on his face left all with a clue
That he’d got the best peg on the pond
(Oh boo-hoo!!)
Gary then drew 23, right next door
While Byron the Hobbit was seated on 4.
Craig pulled out 3 with Scott taking 6
The spread round the pegs created a mix.
Next up was Firthy, he stepped to the plate.
“Oh! Bugger” he moaned “I’ve got 28”
Mark C was on 13 (unlucky for some)
But a peg where the lads were catching for fun!!
We got underway at nine forty-five
With everyone hoping the place was alive
But the sport it was slowed by a recent cold spell
And the carp didn’t show, but oh! What the hell
We’d catch roach on caster and hope that the sun
Would warm up the water then give us some fun!
For the first couple hours it was nip and tuck
With the odd carp landed (and lost – oh f…k)
But no-one was setting the pace of the game
And all had a chance of making the frame.
But slowly Mark C was making his play
With Craig landing one or two on the way
The Knacker Tap man was also a-catching
And Scott sat on 6 he was also latching
Into carp he hoped would make his day
And make up for the days when he was away!
Then Craig had a chuck and soon he was wrestling
A big fish that took him a while to have nestling
(Not quite!) in his net (it was a real munter)
That went 14lbs, the best of this winter!
Then Ryan began to find fish on the feed
That soon saw him bagging and taking the lead
He ended up winning (the jammy young sod)
A permanent bend had invaded his rod.
He took a good forty to take up first place
But Mark’s 36 put him just off the pace
Dave Parker took 3rd with a good twenty seven
While Craig sat in fourth, in spite of his big ‘un (!!!!!!!)
Winning team on the day with a score of just seven
Was Craig, Dave P and our tame tax man Alan
A solid performance, you all must agree
So hearty congratulations from me!!
See you all next time
