OUTINGS & COMPETITION CONVENER’S REPORT 2019
Attendances at our evening outings to determine the outcome of the Stan Tuer Tankard and the Willie Skinner Priest had not lived up to previous seasons either as a result of inclement weather (on the first night in particular) or the outings clashed with other events.
Don Mackay showed the way on all three nights, with his patience and perseverance being rewarded, taking a maximum 4 fish limit on two of these evenings.
Overall, Don’s 10 fish gave him a winning total weight of 11lb 14ozs. Runner-up was Ian Miller with his 6 fish for 6lb 11ozs.
Within the above Don also had the heaviest fish over the three nights to take the W S Priest with a rainbow of weighing 2lb on the second evening in June.
As is normal over the last few seasons, a club voucher for a day’s fishing is awarded to each month’s evening winner. Don won all three of them. Well done Don.
As was put forward at the last AGM, our annual outing took place in July on L Brora, with nine members taking part on a very benign day of weather which was a rarity for us. Using the Dornoch, Brora and Golspie boats, fortunes were mixed. Top boat was L Mackay & I Miller who each scored 45points. By virtue of the better class of fish Lenny was declared top rod. Richard Dickenson had the highest points total the best fish (trout) and Lenny had the distinction of landing the only salmon of the season from the loch and out with the competition guidelines.
As a result of extremely stormy weather, the Clarkson Outing had to be cancelled.

May I point out, that prior to setting out on L. Brora on July 13th July, it was noted that all previous annual outings were for trout only, (this time to include sea-trout) with the points system to determine the winner. Any possible salmon caught would not be included in these totals, but would be eligible for the Kenneth Whitson Trophy.
It is hoped that this season’s outing will again be held on Brora followed by a bite to eat in The Eagle Hotel.
Our 2019 man of the moment, Don Mackay, also landed a tagged fish from Lannsaidh, earning him a voucher from The Eagle Hotel, who has sponsored this section. Thanks to Eric and Suzie at The Eagle.
