OUTINGS & COMPETITION CONVENOR’S REPORT 2018 REPORT
Again we had a good turn out of members for the first evening in May for the Stan Tuer Tankard with sixteen fish recorded for the sixteen rods present. Don Mackay’s four fish limit weighed-in at 7lb 13ozs with 3 of his fish over the 2lb mark set the benchmark for everyone else. The heaviest fish on the night at 2lb 11ozs was landed by M Banks.
The June evening was also well attended, despite the threat of the electrical storm that banged away over the Bonar/Ardgay area. Even with the previous week’s stocking fish were hard to come by, (maybe because of the weather) with M Banks taking two fish for 3lb 1oz. Bill Hives had the best fish at 2lb 6ozs.
Our third evening in July proved to be hard-going with seven fish recorded for the nine members present which included our French member Gerard whose dry fly tactics worked extremely well with seven fish all returned.
Overall winner was Don Mackay with 7 fish for 11lb 1oz and the heaviest fish M Banks as above.
As was suggested at the last
Another good day was had at Loch Brora in September for the Clarkson Trophy with mixed boat teams
from Dornoch, Golspie & Brora members catching brownies, finnock, and sea-trout using the points system to decide the prizes. Again as 2017, a fresh salmon was lost at the net to member, Lennie Mackay.

The Judy Gozzett Trophy for the best recorded brown trout of the season has not been awarded because of no nominations, which is quite disappointing. All we need is for a fellow member to witness and verify on your permit ticket, to register the fish.
Look forward to seeing you all again soon and wish you tight lines for the 2019 season.
