29/05/2004 - 19/07/2015

Jade came from the Trialex kennels, a superb kennel of working German Shepherds, many of whom went to work for the Police or as Service dogs.  I was hoping to get a puppy from her in 2006, but unfortunately that didn’t happen, so the breeder offered her to me instead, with the option of being able to take a litter from her myself in the future.  As she is such a stunning dog and everything I look for in a GSD, I didn't want to lose the opportunity of getting a pup from her, so I took her for a week’s trial to see how she got on with the rest of the pack. She fitted in with them fine and then at the end of the week we were at a local dog show when I looked down and a child had come up to her and was stroking her. So calm and accepting was she that I hadn’t even been aware the child had approached. That sealed the (already sealed) deal. A dog with a temperament like that is not one you refuse.

This is the first time I have taken on a dog not from a puppy and to her credit (and breeding), she settled in with the family from day 1, she was even great with Gizmo which was amazing for a kennel dog.  She is absolutely beautiful and very loving, a real sweetheart.  The others are used to dogs coming to stay so accepted her straight away, although I think it took them a few months to realise that it was a bit more permanent than usual!!  She came to stay September 2006 and we started agility training and I hope to start tracking with her.  Her look and shape has earned her many admirers already.  She loves to chase balls as do the rest of the pack and is very fast over the ground, always getting to the ball first, unless the others get a head start!  She has a superb ground-eating tireless gait that shows she could easily do the job she was bred to do.

By June 2007, Jade had been with me coming up a year and was well settled and I decided I couldn't wait for that puppy from her any more.  So I went back to the breeder and we repeated the mating.  On 13th August 2007, Jade produced 6 healthy pups, 2 girls and 4 boys.  They are gorgeous and have a real working attitude.  They never stop when they are out.  All were homed apart from the girl I planned to keep and one boy who I could not bear to part with unless it was a cracking working home - as there were no cracking working homes around, he stayed :-)) She is Sky and he is Quinn.

As the “incomer” Jade was always the bottom of the pack, but since losing Gipsy, Jade has moved up the ranks and her best friend is now Rio. She loves to chase the ball and is quite good at bringing it back – if Rio is not around!!! She can get distracted though and will drop it and lose it. She usually finds it again, but I do miss Gipsy and Casey for that. Jade could be a good agility dog if we had the proper training up here.

Tragically on 19th July I had to let Jade go at the age of 11 years old.  She had bleeding of the spleen and when she was opened up to have it removed, it was discovered that there were lots of tumors that had spread beyond the spleen so she was let go.  She is now back here with the rest of my gone but not forgotten friends.
