Silver

1983 – 2000

Apart from the usual small animals and the foster dogs we had when I was living at home, Silver was the first real pet of my own. I got her not long after leaving home. Although dogs are my first love, I do love all animals and as circumstances at the time were not conducive to having a dog, a cat was the next best thing. Silver was so named because as a tiny kitten, the fur on her belly was tipped with silver. She was a very special cat and was with me through my first 4 dogs, she was a typically independent cat at home, preferring to sit on her own rather than your lap, however she was very friendly in her own way. She came on holidays with us and accompanied us to agility shows. She loved sitting at the caravan door and was completely unfazed by all the dogs walking by at the agility shows, they looked a bit bemused by her too – a cat at an agility show!! When we went on holiday, she would go for walks in her harness – super little cat.

Silver was diagnosed with FIV at age 15. The vet reckoned she was scratched by a local Tom cat carrying the virus about a couple of years previously as this is apparently the incubation period. We managed to keep her going for another 2 years before her immune system finally gave out.
