Confidentiality

 

Patient confidentiality is of paramount importance at all time in the surgery; always.  Everyone is who works at the surgery is bound by the same rules of confidentiality.  Access to information is on a strictly “need to know” basis.

Any patient information used for audit purposes is completely anonymised.

Purpose for which data may be used :

  ●  Routine record keeping for providing care and treatment

 ●  To disclose information to another health professional ,e.g. a specialist during referral, a Paramedic during emergency transfer.

During rescue or emergency some relevant details may be shared with the Fire and Rescue Service, the Police, the Scottish Ambulance Service and Her Majesty's Coast Guard to enable and facilitate deployment of rescue resources.

    ● Clinical audit to ensure standards are met

    ● Administrative audit to help improve efficiency of the NHS, e.g. to support  the allocation of resources.

    ● For the purpose of the Crime & Disorder Act 1998

    ● Disclosures to the police

  • For the purposes of private reports required by patients from time to time e.g. firearms licensing, HGV medicals etc.

 

Rights and Responsibilities

A copy of the practice charter can be obtained from the practice manager if required.
