The Walking
This series of work overlaps with 'Seeing you there' about memory and our attachment to place. I seem to be returning to spaces that are left open, beckoning... - the footpaths, the space between the trees where you can see light or open space when out walking. These are natural places but cultivated too, controlled spaces not 'wild'. This controlled space gives comfort and reassurance that while we walk and feel surrounded by nature, we are with something familiar and non-threatening. I'm thinking about human life as part of nature despite our urban lifestyles, going to the woods to walk on soft earth or gravel, smell and hear the environment around us, taking us to a place of reflection.
