Prayer Diary Oct 2013
Tuesday 1st House Group
He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to
go down. Psalm 104.19 As sure as are the changes in the seasons
is our assurance in Jesus Christ at our end. Faithful Lord, increase
our trust in You throughout this new month!
Wednesday 2nd
Friends always show their love. What are brothers (sisters) for if
not to share trouble? (Prov. 17.17 GNB)
Heavenly Father, help me to be a friend today to someone who
needs to have their burden shared, and bless both of us!
Thursday 3rd Church Hall open for soup and sweet lunches
Lyall will be in our school for his regular Assembly along with the
Challenger Bus from Perth which has been in our County for
several weeks. This is a well respected educational resource. Pray
that the minds and hearts of children might be open to understand
more of God’s Word and of the significance of His Son Jesus hrist.
Friday 4th Youth Group/ Schools close for the Oct. Holiday
Thank You, Lord, for times of rest and refreshment. The school
staff will welcome this break – bless them richly. Keep the
children safe during these days and, if possible grant good weather
so that they can be out of doors.
Saturday 5th
Whatever I do today, Lord, remind me to be grateful to You. I owe
my health and strength, my possessions, my very life to You!
Sunday 6th
Today Lyall conducts the Harvest Thanksgiving Service at Dunnet
while Esme takes the services at Keiss and Canisbay. Pray for
God’s blessing on each one who gathers, that there may be a very
real sense of worship of our God Who is utterly faithful. Glory be
to Him!
Monday 7th
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, ‘Whom shall I send?
And who will go for us?’ And I said, ‘Here am I. Send me!’
(Isaiah 6.8)
Lord Jesus Christ: You gave Your all for me: help me to offer my
all for You. Show me what You want of me today!
Tuesday 8th
Lyall and Isabel hope to be enjoying some well deserved holiday at
home and with their family at this time. Please remember them in
your prayers, that they might be refreshed and renewed before the
busy winter months.
Wednesday 9th
He heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds.
(Psalm 147.3)
Wonderful Lord! You are both healer and gentle servant in times of
need!
Thursday 10th Church Hall open for soup and sweet lunches
Thank You, Lord, for technology which is such a blessing for
many of us. Help us to use it not only for our own convenience, but
for Your glory. Where it leads to forms of abuse, protect our
children and young people.
Friday 11th
You do not stay angry for ever but delight to show mercy.
(Micah 7.18)
Dear Lord, help me when my patience runs out with those who
have hurt me! Remind me that others may have a similar attitude
towards me1
Saturday 12th
Today there is a Coffee Afternoon at Achvarasdal, the Church’s
Care Home at Reay. Give thanks for this effective pastoral work
done in Christ’s name and pray for all elderly people in care in our
county. Most are content but some struggle with fear and
frustration. Ask our Merciful father to comfort these dear folk and
to enable the staff and friends to make life better for them.
Sunday 13th
I will listen to what God the Lord will say. (Psalm 85.8)
God our Saviour, help us to expect to hear You speaking as we gather to worship You today. Some of us will be unable to attend a service today. Lord, You know us and You know our hearts. Help us to draw near to You and to hear You speak. How greatly we need You!
Monday 14th
I can do everything through him who gives me strength. (Phil.4.13)
It is You, Lord, who gives me the victory. Remind me constantly that I am nothing without You!
Tuesday 15th
Probably the House Group will meet today to continue to discuss some of the Church and Society’s issues which affect our lives in this 21st Century. Give thanks for the fellowship which we value and pray that others will join us if they are able. It is important that our minds are open to see what is the will of God for His people in these days.
Wednesday 16th
God of the family, we ask Your special blessing on the families of our church and community today. In the midst of busy lives give them quality time together. Where there is pain and stress, be specially close because You know and love every single one.
Thursday 17th Church Hall open for soup and sweet lunches
What a joy it is to have our church hall with all the possibilities it
offers! We continue to be grateful for the success of the lunches
served on Thursdays both for fellowship and fund-raising. Some of
our regular visitors urge us not to stop! Thank You, Lord, for this
precious opportunity to reach out beyond our own community,
forging friendship with others.
Friday 18th
Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring forth. (Proverbs 27.1)
Lord, let me live one day at a time, and not waste my thoughts and energies on tomorrow’s worries.
Saturday 19th
Lyall and Isabel will be coming to the end of their holiday. All (most!) good things come to an end. Pray for God’s blessing on Lyall as he takes up the reins again and for Isabel as she supports and works with him so effectively. Thank You for the very real encouragement shown by the people of Canisbay, Dunnet and Keiss who value them greatly.
Sunday 20th
Today Esme hopes to conduct the services at Keiss and Canisbay while Robert Nicol is at Dunnet. As part of his duties as an Ordained Local Minister Robert will be getting to know the congregation at
Olrig and it makes sense that he has some involvement in Dunnet. Pray for God’s rich blessing on all four congregations and ask Him to use and speak through today’s preachers!
Monday 21st
Faithful God, we trust You. As we talk with You day by day,
strengthen our trust. Perhaps You will give us opportunities to share
with someone else an experience in which we have proved You.
Give us the words to say and courage to speak!
Tuesday 22nd Schools return, Canisbay Guild
The Guild are very grateful for a good start last month and now are keenly anticipating this evening’s meeting at which the speaker is Miss Anne Dunnett, Lord Lieutenant of Caithness. Pray for God’s blessing on speaker and members alike with rich fellowship enjoyed in His presence.
Wednesday 23rd
For it is written: ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully’ (Luke 4.10)
Lord God, You gave that promise concerning Jesus and You kept it. Thank You that You promise to protect Your people too - even me. Help me to trust You absolutely!
Thursday 24th Church Hall open for soup and sweet lunches
All being well, this evening Esme will be ordained at a service held by Caithness Presbytery in our church. Pray for God’s blessing on each person who will take part and bless the people of our community and linked congregations who will attend. May it be a very happy occasion!
Friday 25th Youth Group resumes
Give thanks to God that the Youth Group has been particularly encouraging. Thirteen are attending regularly, from P6 to S3. The older members are helping Lyall and Isabel in the leadership of the group - a fact which bodes well for the future. Pray that the weeks ahead will go really well.
Saturday 26th
The fruit of the Spirit is love. Gal.5.22
Constant God, thank You for Your love for us which never
changes. Help us who know You in a personal way to reflect this
love to others so that they will reach out to You and in turn be
richly blessed.
Sunday 27th British Summer Time ends: clocks change
On long dark evenings and mornings which discourage us from rising, it is good to remember with gratitude an exceptionally good summer when we enjoyed long hot days. God of the Seasons, remind us that You are in control and that sunshine and light will return. Who knows? We may see a rainbow today!
Monday 28th
When You lived on earth, Lord Jesus, You healed the sick. We pray for people in our community who have suddenly been diagnosed with cancer or a similar disease. Thank You that You use medical research to bring healing today. Please make treatment effective for our friends and use our prayers for them as well.
Tuesday 29th
My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. (Psalm 119.28)
When I cry out in honest despair, the Scriptures comfort me. Merciful Father, make this real in my experience.
Wednesday 30th
Tomorrow Lyall will be back at our school to conduct Assembly with the children. Thank You for the good relationship that he has with pupils and staff and pray that the minds of each one who is present might be open to Your challenge. Thank You for the rich Christian heritage in Canisbay School.
Thursday 31st Church Hall open for soup and sweet lunches
Today marks the last of our lunches for 2013! How grateful we - and our many visitors - are for the dedicated service given by Jean and John and their team of helpers. The value of these lunches cannot be measured. Give thanks to God for what has been achieved and pray that He will follow it with His rich blessing.
