Prayer Diary June 2012

Friday 1st

Eternal God, as a new month begins, we give You praise and

thanks that Jesus is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Help us

to keep our trust in You.

Saturday 2nd

Tomorrow is Trinity Sunday. Some of us find it hard to understand

the Trinity: our minds can’t cope with it. Almighty God, we

worship You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, Three In One. Help us to

get to know You better.

Sunday 3rd    All Age Family Service, Messy Church

God of the family, bless the service today in a special way. Bring

children with their Mums and Dads and many others, young and

older. May Your Spirit be obviously present in the sanctuary and in

the hall so that all who come will be attracted to You.

Monday 4th

Gracious God, at this time of celebration we thank You for

sustaining our Queen through sixty years of devoted service. Grant

her great happiness and strength in these busy days and continue to

answer the prayers which we offer in our national anthem.

Tuesday 5th

As celebrations continue for many over these days of holiday, we

thank You, Lord God, for every special event planned and enjoyed.

Many of us have vivid memories of the Coronation celebrated

during our schooldays. Make this weekend memorable for our

children.

Wednesday 6th   Kirk Session and Board

Lord Jesus Christ, Head of the Church, we ask for Your special blessing for our meeting. Guide our thinking and our speaking. Help us to listen to one another. May the decisions we make be in Your will for the extension of Your Kingdom in our parish.

Thursday 7th

Lord, where I am wrong, make me willing to change. And where I

am right, make me easy to live with.

Friday 8th

Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You for our church and for Your

Church worldwide. Thank You for freedom to worship You.

Comfort and encourage today all who have to meet in secret and

Who are persecuted for their faith.

Saturday 9th

Tomorrow at 09.15 and 15.00 coach loads of visitors holidaying with Intercruises will visit our church. Would that they were able to worship with us! Pray for Christine Shearer as she welcomes them answers their questions. Pray too that the time which these visitors spend in the sanctuary might make a significant impression on them.

Sunday 10th    Sacrament of Holy Communion

Risen Lord, today we gather, a small group of Your people, around Your Table to remember that Your body was broken and Your blood was poured out for us. Make this sacrament meaningful to each of us so that we go out enabled to live more effectively for You in the days ahead. Bless any visitors who will join us.

Monday 11th

Merciful Lord, we continue to thank you for answering our

prayers for Alastair and Fiona Gray. Thank You for little Max’s

safe arrival. Bless them as a family and give Alastair wisdom in

what he does so that he will soon be restored to full strength and

  health.

Tuesday 12th

Heavenly Father, remind us the we are the people you love and

have chosen to be Your very own. Help us to forgive one another as

freely as You have forgiven us.

  Wednesday 13th

Merciful Father, we thank You for our health. Forgive us if

sometimes we take it for granted! Give us empathy and sensitivity

towards those who are not so fortunate, and wisdom to know how

to help those who are in need.

 Thursday 14th

Dear Lord, we thank and praise You that You are right here with us.

Give us Your heart of love for those we serve and those we meet.

 Friday 15th

This afternoon in our church Ivan will officiate at the wedding of

Hayley Dunbar to Chris Magee. Pray for God’s blessing on all who

gather and His special blessing on Hayley and Chris as they make

 their vows.

 Saturday 16th

Lord, so often our world appears to be in turmoil with evil running

uncontrolled. You have the whole world in Your hands; help us to

 put our trust in You.

Sunday 17th

Pray for Isabel as she conducts our service today and remember Lyall with the services earlier at Keiss and then at Dunnet. June can be a busy month with visitors and many distractions which might keep people away from worship. Pray that each member of our congregations will listen to the prompting of God and come along with an open heart.

Monday 18th

Remember the children in Primary 7 as they come to the end of this term. Our school has given them a particularly good grounding, preparing them for the next stage of their education. Some will be nervous, some excited as they contemplate the future after the holidays. Pray that they will each find the resources they need.

Tuesday 19th

‘Do not be afraid or discouraged. The battle is not yours, but God’s. Stand firm and see the deliverance that the Lord will give you.’

God spoke these words to Joshua millennia ago but some of us are facing a very real battle just now. He is the same God and His promise is still true!

Wednesday 20th

Gracious Lord, thank You for the freedom we enjoy to worship You. Show us how to attract people to You so that our churches may overflow with Spirit-filled Christians. Impossible? Not for our God!

Thursday 21st Communion at Dwarwick and Nitekirk at Dunnet

What a special way to celebrate the longest day of 2012! God of the seasons, richly bless all who gather with our friends in Dunnet Parish. Make this a very special experience for everyone - and prompt any who are hesitant to come along!

Friday 22nd

Merciful Father, as strife continues in Afghanistan and in other

parts of our uncertain world, look after the men and women who

serve in our Armed Forces. Give each one whatever they need

today. Thank You that each is known to You and loved by You. Be close to their families who wait and pray.

Saturday 23rd       Summer Fete at Achvarasdal House

Please pray for this annual fund-raising event organised by the Friends of Achvarasdal. In past years we have been richly blessed as kirk folk and others have gathered to enjoy entertainment and teas in the garden. Pray for a good turn out - and for good weather!

Sunday 24th

Merciful Father, we pray today for those who once worshipped regularly with us but are no longer able to attend our services because of age or disability. Make the fellowship of Your Spirit real to them. Help them to know that we do not forget them.

Monday 25th

Creator God, in this holiday season, we thank You for the beauty and peacefulness of Caithness. Let us be a lighthouse for the visitors who travel here, shining for You so that they see Christ and His glory through us.

Tuesday 26th  Caithness Presbytery at Lybster

This evening, Gordon Oliver, minister of Latheron Parish, will be installed as Moderator and we shall celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Communion together. Pray for God’s blessing on Gordon, on the people of his church and on all who gather for what is much more than a business meeting.

Wednesday 27th

God of all comfort, we pray for those who have been bereaved. Use us to bring comfort and hope where we have the opportunity, giving us the right words to use, and prompting us to be silent when our presence and tears are sufficient.

Thursday 28th  End of Year Service in Canisbay Church

Pray for this special service as the children, staff and parents gather to give thanks for the year which is ending. Pray for Lyall as he conducts the service and for the children who will take part. May it be meaningful and memorable for everyone present.

Friday 29th

Gracious God, as holidays start, hold every family in Your hands. Keep the children and young people safe in their activities and on the roads. Give grace to those who find it hard to arrange child-care. May all who are weary find renewal and refreshment in the weeks ahead.

Saturday 30th

Today the first half of 2012 comes to a close! It would be possible to panic that the year is galloping out of control! God of Time, help me to put myself and all my concerns firmly in Your hands so that I live each day at Your pace. Thank You for what I have achieved. Graciously forgive what has been lacking - in Jesus’ name.
