Prayer Diary May 2012
Tuesday 1st Presbytery meets in Wick St Fergus
Gracious Father, be in the midst as Presbytery meets in Wick this evening. May Your will be done as reports are received and decisions made. May each person present remember that this is Your Church and that we gather to serve.
Wednesday 2nd
Bless the Wednesday Group meeting this afternoon, Lord. Thank You for the fellowship and fun which this offers to those who gather. Please bring more who could benefit from meeting together.
Thursday 3rd Highland Council Election
Thank You, Father, for those who have served faithfully as our elected representatives in the past years. Help us to use our votes wisely today and then to uphold in prayer those who are elected that they might serve faithfully, always having the good of our people in their sights.
Friday 4th
Dear Lord, as senior pupils all over Scotland sit exams during these weeks, we pray specially for those of our own community. Please reward conscientious work done over the years and grant success to each one. Help parents too as they cope with the stress of this time!
Saturday 5th
Today Lyall will do an abseil in aid of the Clic Sargent Cancer Charity. Thank You, Lord, for this initiative. Bless and keep safe all who take part. May the weather be suitable! Thank You for sponsorship already promised: multiply what is given so that much help will be available to those who are in such need.
Sunday 6th All Age Family Service
Holy Spirit of God, fill every aspect of this service with Your blessing. Encourage Lyall by bringing families to worship together in this service specially crafted to appeal to young and older. Prompt those who might otherwise forget. Hear our prayer, Lord!
Monday 7th
Dear Lord, when it seems that no-one understands our need, remind us that You understand.. You know us better than we know ourselves. Thank You that You have Your plan and purpose for us - and that You will equip us for what You call us to. Help us too to know when to say ‘no’ to the call which is not from You!
Tuesday 8th
Gracious God, we pray for Rhona Moodie, now back serving as Head Teacher of our school. Bless her and all the staff in this summer term. Thank You for the valuable work done by Graham Bruce and for the good relationships continued between school and church.
Wednesday 9th
Merciful Lord, we thank You for answering our prayers. At this time we are specially that Alastair Gray’s operation was successful and we continue to pray for his full recovery. Give him wisdom day by day so that nothing might make it harder for this prayer to be answered. Keep Your arms round Fiona as the time of the birth of their baby draws near.
Thursday 10th
Creator God, thank You that You have made each of us as individuals. Please use our separate talents in Your service and for Your glory.
Friday 11th Youth Group
Father God, as the Youth Group resumes after a break, bless those who gather with Lyall and Isabel this evening. Give them ideas which are both attractive and possible to bring to fruition. Thank You for the encouragement these boys and girls find as they meet together in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Saturday 12th
All knowing God, some people have difficult decisions to make and struggle to see what is the right way ahead. Help them to hand it over to You and to be able to trust that You will make everything clear in your time.
Sunday 13th Christian Aid Week
Merciful God, bless our service today as we focus on the work of Christian Aid and enable us to do what we can to support this effective arm of Your Church worldwide. Make this week meaningful to us so that our prayerful support continues when the week ends.
Monday 14th
Listening Lord, we thank You that we can come to you through Jesus and ask anything in His name. Help us to learn to pray as Jesus did, to listen for Your voice and to recognise Your will.
Tuesday 15th
Merciful Father, we pray for all who live in fear, particularly those who face death. Comfort them with Your presence and the reality of Your offer of eternal life.
Wednesday 16th
Thank You. Living Lord, that as we learn more of You each day, You become increasingly the Centre of all that we think and do.
Thursday 17th Ascension Day
Today we remember how Jesus left His disciples to return to God’s right hand, His own work completed.. As He left behind a group of followers to witness to Him all over the world, enable us, dear Lord, to be faithful in carrying out His commission.
Friday 18th
Gracious God, we pray for the children of our school as another week ends. Bless and strengthen each of the staff in their planning and preparation. Please also bless Lyall in the opportunities which he has in assembles and in regular contact with the children. Thank You for good relationships through which You can work effectively
Saturday 19th General Assembly until 25th
Pray for the Moderator, Council Conveners and all commissioners gathered for this hugely important event in the life of our National Church. May every decision made be in accordance with God’s will for the extension of His Kingdom in our land.
Sunday 20th Heart and Soul, Edinburgh
This afternoon the Church of Scotland will hold another huge Celebration in Princes Street Gardens using an ever greater area than last year. This is an effective witness to our Faith and a way of showing what we do as a National Church. Pray for a happy time, for dry weather and a significant, lasting impression on all who attend.
Monday 21st
Help us, Lord, to make each day a special one - even this Monday morning! Let us take nothing for granted, always open to do things for others as You give us opportunity.
Tuesday 22nd
Jesus did so much in three years of ministry! Help us, Lord, through Your Holy spirit, to continue Your work today.
Wednesday 23rd
Welcoming Lord, thank You for all who visit our church while it is open. As they enjoy and comment on the peace they find, may Your peace rest on them and may we never take this for granted.
Thursday 24th
Lord God, as we approach Pentecost, we thank You for Your Holy Spirit. Let Him shine through us so that others may truly know You. We pray especially for the young ones in our church and community. They need You in their lives: help us to show You to them.
Friday 25th
We thank You, Gracious Lord, that You answer our prayers for others. We bring to You those who need Your healing hands. Keep us faithful in our prayers for them.
Saturday 26th
Thank You, Father, for another weekend! Bless families, helping them where possible to be able to spend quality time together. Where there is tension, give a spirit of patience and understanding so that problems can be sorted out before they grow too big!
Sunday 27th Pentecost: The Birthday of the Church
Holy Spirit of God, as You came to Your disciples long ago and Your Church was dramatically born, enable each of us who seek to follow Jesus and to be ‘Church’ to receive a fresh infilling of Your Spirit. Make our service today specially meaningful.
Monday 28th
God of Creation, we thank You for long days, for the increasing warmth of the sun and for new life all around us. Be specially near to those in our community who cannot go out to enjoy the fresh air. Comfort each one and help them to know that they are not forgottenby us and by You.
Tuesday 29th
God of the Years, we thank You that we are part of the 2012 celebrations - the Queen’s Jubilee, the Olympics, the 125th Anniversary of the Church of Scotland Guild and the 25th Anniversary of Canisbay Guild. Each celebration is an opportunity to give glory to You. Help us to do that!
Wednesday 30th
Help us, Lord, to work in our communities as we are able, being of service for Your sake - helping the ill, the vulnerable, the shunned and the bereaved; not for our own glory, but for Yours.
Thursday 31st
Thank You, Gracious God, for bringing us safely to the end of another month - a full month. Thank You for so much answered prayer. Help each of us to trust You for the answers which we wait for, knowing that everything is in Your hands. You are utterly faithful! Thank You!
Thank you for your prayers. We would be grateful to receive feedback which encourages us in the preparation of this Prayer Diary. Please let us know of any specific prayer requests, and of answers received (esmeduncan@btinternet.com). We’ll help others to praise God with you!
With gratitude for your fellowship in prayer, Esme and June.
