Prayer Diary March 2012
Thursday 1st
Eternal God, as we stand at the beginning of another month, help us
to look up to You, knowing that You have gone before and that we
can trust You for all that will happen. We are in Your strong hands!
Friday 2nd World Day of Prayer
On this World Day of Prayer we gather this afternoon in Dunnet
Church Hall for the service prepared by Christian women of
Malaysia. Dear Lord, richly bless us along with all Your people
across the world who take time to share in this precious experience
of fellowship and prayer.
Saturday 3rd
Sometimes I just want to go my own way, Lord, but I confess that
so often this lands me in trouble. Help me to consult You before I
set off into this day, or into tomorrow.
Sunday 4th All Age Service
Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You for our church and for Your
Church worldwide. Thank You for freedom to worship You.
Comfort and encourage today all who have to meet in secret and
who are persecuted for their faith.
Monday 5th
Almighty God, Caithness has such a problem with road traffic
accidents, especially involving young or elderly drivers. Give
wisdom and safety to all who travel on our roads and elsewhere.
Tuesday 6th Presbytery Meeting in Thurso
Lord of the Church, grant wisdom as the business is dealt with this
evening. May Your Spirit brood over all the proceedings so that
decisions made are in accordance with Your will.
Wednesday 7th
The Wednesday Group resumes this afternoon on a monthly basis with tea, chat and an occasional speaker. This is a good opportunity for ladies to invite friends and neighbours to join together in a non-threatening way in our church hall.
Thursday 8th
Merciful Father, we hear of friends and family members who have received a diagnosis of a health problem. Particularly where this is unexpected the initial response can be devastating. Help those affected to believe that nothing is unknown to You and enable them to trust that You have Your plans for them. Hold them close!
Friday 9th
Thank You, dear Lord, for the quiet lives which we live here in Caithness. We think of those living in lands where war and conflict threaten and destroy. Be especially with the people of Syria just now. Bring peace, Lord!
Saturday 10th
During Lent we remember how privileged we are. In Burundi there is less than one doctor for 20,000 people. In the UK we have 42 for that number! Give us grateful hearts and help us today to pray imaginatively for the people of that land.
Sunday 11th Short Meeting of the Board after the service
Almighty Father, as we gather to worship You on this Second Sunday in Lent, encourage us to look to Jesus, seeking to live lives which are faithful to Him. We can’t do it on our own: use each part of the service today to strengthen and enable us!
Monday 12th
Good Shepherd, while we thank You for the joy of Springtime and the new life we see around us, we realise that those involved in lambing are weary. Give them the strength they need to bring them through and watch over lambs, ewes and shepherds alike.
Tuesday 13th
Almighty God, during Lent we think of the 884 million people in the developing world who are forced to use unsafe drinking water sources. We confess that we take our clean, fresh water for granted. Yet each one of these children and adults in danger is known to You. How can we love them for Your sake?
Wednesday 14th
Merciful Lord, comfort those who have recently been bereaved: there seem to have been so many even since the year began! Give us the courage to approach those who may benefit from a kind word of condolence when they are feeling down.
Thursday 15th
We thank You, Father, for the open hearts and minds of children.
As Lyall conducts assembly in our school this morning, please make this time special for every single child, and for the adults too.
Friday 16th
The Youth Group will meet this evening with Lyall and Isabel. Thank You, Gracious Lord, for each of these young folk; for their enthusiasm and their ability. Bless their homes too and nurture the
seeds which are planted. Thank You that You have Your purpose for all of them.
Saturday 17th
Giving God, You gave Your Only Son to die for our sake. Help us to be generous in all things - in giving our money, time and our love and friendship to those around us.
Sunday 18th Annual Stated Meeting following the service
Today is also Mothers’ Day and the Fourth Sunday in Lent. Lord of the Church and of families, bless richly all that takes place in our church and community today.
Monday 19th
Almighty Father, we pray for friends and family members facing difficult situations today. Help us to know how to help, and also when to remain silent, talking only to You. Thank You that You always know what is best.
Tuesday 20th Guild Meeting
The Guild meet this evening to discuss the Guild Topic: Let’s talk about thanking God for His Creation. Many of us remember having to make do and mend, but it is perhaps today’s younger people who now take a more responsible view of preserving the earth’s resources. Challenge and inform us, Creator God - and give us fun in our fellowship!
Wednesday 21st
Living Lord, You gave us the supreme example of meekness in Your life on earth. Banish the pride which so often tries to win through in my life and keep me humble in my attitude to You.
Thursday 22nd
Look forward in faith, the world is in God’s care.
CH4 237 A.J.Scobie)
Forgive me, Lord, if I find it hard to say or sing these words.
Almost all that I hear on radio and TV or read in the papers
suggests that things are completely out of hand. Help me to have
faith that You really are in control and to share that confidence with
others.
Friday 23rd
Loving God, Loving God, as we journey towards Easter, we thank You that Your purpose was always to give Your Son to die for us. There are people around me who need to understand this. Help me to share with them - in a word or in my prayer for them now.
Saturday 24th
Merciful Father, as strife continues in Afghanistan and in other parts of our uncertain world, look after the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces. Give each one whatever they need today. Thank You that each is known to You and loved by You.
Sunday 25th
British Summer Time begins today, Lord. Although we may well have wintry weather still to endure, we thank You for your promise that summer will come with its light and warmth. Help me to cheer someone up today with that assurance!
Monday 26th
Gracious Lord, richly bless the visit of the singer BeBeVox to Primary schools in Caithness during this week with evening concerts in Wick and Thurso. Thank You for the opportunities which these events offer to challenge all who attend. Remind us to support this outreach with our faithful prayers.
Tuesday 27th
At the end of this week, our school will hold their Easter Assembly. Loving Father, as the children gather in our church, with parents and other adults present, prepare every single heart to understand more of the real meaning of Easter.
Wednesday 28th
Lord of our Nation, in this Diamond Jubilee Year we thank You that we have lived through a time of plenty with huge improvements in our lifestyles. Thank You for the sacrificial dedication of our Queen. Richly bless her as she fulfills so many extra commitments.
Thursday 29th
Merciful Father, we pray today for people who have little sense of worth. Some are elderly, feeling alone and vulnerable. Prompt those of us who are able to know how to bring assistance - and help us to do this for the sake of Jesus Who loves each of them dearly.
Friday 30th
As our school and all schools across the Region close for the Easter holidays, pray for families who are able to spend quality time together. Pray for the children whom you’ll see out playing and meet in the town. And remember especially single parents who find it difficult to arrange child care during the break from school.
Saturday 31st
Thank You, dear Lord, that even when You have the whole of Creation on Your agenda, You have been right here beside me through every moment of this month. Thank You for what I’ve achieved and have seen others achieve.
