June 2011 Prayer Diary
Wednesday 1st
As commissioners return to their parishes following the General
Assembly, brood over Your Church, Lord. Preserve the unity of the
Body of Christ.
Thursday 2nd Ascension Day
Ascended Lord Jesus, when You returned to Your Father’s side,
You left ordinary people to continue Your work on earth. Help us
to be faithful in Your service today.
Friday 3rd Youth Group
Thank You, Lord, for this enthusiastic group! Continue to bless
them in their learning, their doing, their enjoying. Strengthen Lyall
and Isabel and call others to help them to lead.
Saturday 4th Prayer Breakfast
Personal prayer is vital, but there is special value in gathering in
small groups. Thank You that You promise to meet with us here -
and bring more to find blessing with us.
Sunday 5th
Almighty Father, as we gather for worship today, accept and inhabit
our praise. Fill the service with Your Spirit, empowering us to live
for You.
Monday 6th
This evening some of our office bearers and friends will meet with
Mairi Anne Cormack to discuss ways of taking forward the vision of
April’s Conference at Bower. Lead by Your Spirit, Lord, and show
us how to involve new people to do new things.
Tuesday 7th Manse Committee and Joint Board
Neither of these groups has met for a long time! Heavenly Father,
grant to all who attend clear minds and open hearts so that decisions
made may be effective towards the extension of Your Kingdom in
our joint parishes.
Wednesday 8th
During this month our Primary 7 pupils will spend preparatory time
in the High School. Please make this time valuable, Merciful Lord.
Particularly give courage to any for whom this may be an
unwelcome or frightening experience.
Thursday 9th
This afternoon a group from Thurso West Church are to use our
church hall for afternoon tea on their outing. We are grateful for this
opportunity to share our hall with others. Richly bless all who
attend, dear Lord and strengthen our friendship with this
congregation.
Friday 10th Youth Group Outing
This evening Lyall and Isabel are taking the members of our Youth
Group to the Norseman Hotel for a meal. Living Lord, give
thorough enjoyment to young and older. Thank You for the success
of this group and for the dedicated leadership which makes this
possible.

Conference in Dundee. Loving God, inspire and strengthen all who
seek to serve people in need of a pastor.
Sunday 12th Pentecost - The Birthday of the Church
Holy Spirit of God, as You came to Your disciples long ago and
Your Church was dramatically born, enable each of us who seek to
follow Jesus and to be ‘Church’ to receive a fresh infilling of Your
Spirit. Make our service today specially meaningful.
Monday 13th
Each of us knows people whose hearts are sore today. Comfort each
of them, Living Lord, and show us how we can best reflect Your
love to them.
Tuesday 14th
Today Achvarasdal House, Reay, celebrates its Diamond Jubilee.
Thank You, Merciful Father, for all service users and staff over these
years. Bless the celebrations.
Wednesday 15th Guild Presbyterial Summer Rally

to Halladale Church for a Songs of Praise. As small groups find
encouragement by being part of something much larger, we thank
You, Gracious Lord, for the Guild and for its commitment to Jesus,
whose we are and whom we serve.
Thursday 16th
We thank You, Father, for the open door which Lyall has into our
school. As he goes this morning to conduct assembly, open hearts
and minds to respond to Your message. Bless all who listen -
children and staff alike. Thank You for the positive Christian ethos
of our school.
Friday 17th
Genuine Christian fellowship is such a blessing! Help me today, dear
Lord, to have more of the love of Jesus in my life so that others will
be attracted to You.
Saturday 18th Canisbay Show
We are richly blessed in our community and the Show held each year builds on this. Almighty God, strengthen the organisers; grant safety and enjoyment to all and, if possible, give us a dry, sunny day!
Sunday 19th Trinity Sunday Fathers’ Day
Heavenly Father, as the Christian Year focuses today on the Trinity, give greater understanding of what is for some a puzzling doctrine. Bless too, the fathers of our church and community that they might be enabled to reflect something of Your Fatherhood.
Monday 20th
Another Monday, Lord! If that fills me with gloom, help me to think of some of the great things You have done for me. Then, as my mood changes to gratitude, help me to share that gratitude with someone else today so that another heart will be filled with praise.
Tuesday 21st Caithness Presbytery
Presbytery will meet in our church this evening to install its new Moderator. Lord of the Church, bless all who will attend. Grant us a happy evening of business followed by fellowship around the Lord’s table and then in our hall with tea and cakes.
Wednesday 22nd
Compassionate Lord, we pray for all the people whom we know who are suffering from cancer. Thank You for increasing success in research, although so much of the treatment has unpleasant side effects. Comfort each one and hear our prayers for them.
Thursday 23rd
Almighty Father, in Your Word You command us to pray for those in authority over us. So today we hold up before You our politicians whose decisions affect our lives. Help them to discern what is just and fair for all people. Thank You for those of their number who are Christians and for those others committed to pray regularly for Parliament.
Friday 24th Midsummer Day
Where has the year gone, Lord?! We thank You for long days, for sunshine and warmth, for all that makes our county such a good place to live in. As visitors spend time in our community and visit our open church, grant them a lasting peace and happy memories to sustain them in the months ahead.
Saturday 25th Achvarasdal Summer Fete
‘A day out for all the family’. Gracious God, we ask You to bless this event in which our whole county has the opportunity to support the House which is home for a number of elderly folk and one aspect of the Church’s caring arm. Good weather would be a great blessing. Thank You for those who will work throughout the afternoon so that others will enjoy the Fete to the full.
Sunday 26th The Sacrament of Holy Communion
Lord Jesus Christ, as You shared bread and wine with Your disciples and commanded them to remember You, we ask Your special blessing on us as we gather in Your House today. We remember too those who are unable to join us because of age or weakness. May Your Spirit comfort and sustain them in a special way. Help them to know that they are not forgotten.
Monday 27th
Merciful Father, we pray for friends and family members facing difficult situations today. Help us to know how to help, and also when to remain silent, talking only to You. Thank You that You always know best.
Tuesday 28th
Almighty God, as the first half of this year draws to a close and I look ahead, I may be unsure of Your will for me. Help me consciously to begin each day with You, putting my hand into the hand of Jesus so that I will not make mistakes.
Wednesday 29th
Merciful Father, guard and protect today each person serving in our
Armed Forces. Comfort and sustain their families who watch and
