We have been working on the programme of events for the next few months and the details below summarise the events we have planned for this winter.....
Comet Spotting [Sat 7th December] - ***CANCELLED due to the weather***
Meet at 1530hrs at Dunnet Beach (Seadrift end) to have a go at spotting and photographing comet ISON and comet Lovejoy. (Note that this event is weather dependent, and we may also relocate from here to a different location shortly after 1540hrs if it will afford a better view past cloud cover).
Members "Mince Pies & Meteors" event [Sat 14th December: 1600-1830hrs at Castlehill]
Comet and Meteor Spotting, & some Lunar Observing.
CAG Stargazing Live Event [7pm Friday 10th Jan at Castlehill]
Public event in conjunction with BBC Stargazing Live. Short talks by CAG members including one on aurora photography by local astrophotographer Maciej Winiarczyk. Weather permitting there will also be the opportunity to observe the Moon and Jupiter - bring your camera phone and take your own astrophoto of the moon through the CAG telescope.
Members Event [7pm on Friday 7th Feb at Castlehill]
Observe and photograph the Moon and Jupiter. See the shadow of Io transit the disk of Jupiter. Indoor topics TBC.
AGM [2-4pm on Sat 8 Feb in Caithness Horizons, Thurso] Principally for members, or potential new members, but open to anyone with an interest in what Caithness Astronomy Group does.
Members Event [7pm on Friday 28th Feb at Castlehill]
The chance for members to observe Jupiter and many fabulous winter objects under dark moonless skies. Indoor topics TBC.
Caithness Science Fair [Saturday 22nd March at Wick Assembly Rooms from 1200-1630hrs]
Public Event [Friday 28th March. Details TBC]
