Struggling with a song?

by Sarah Morgan - 13:27 on 03 October 2011

THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SARAH WROTE THAT I THINK IS VERY USEFUL TO REMEMBER:

There are times when I've really had trouble with a song - sometimes just one line, but try as i may, i can't seem to get it right.  If that happens to you, don't despair!  There's probably nothing wrong with your ability to learn, or your memory, it is just that some tunes or harmonies seem to take longer to settle into place. Sometimes you can go home at the end of a rehearsal feeling that you can't remember anything, and then a few days later you find yourself humming the part you thought you had forgotten, as you walk along the road. Or if that doesn't happen, when you try the piece again at the next rehearsal, it may all come together.  But even if it doesn't work out at that point, it will - honestly.  Just be confident that in time all those notes will form a pattern in your brain, and eventually it will all make sense.  And when that happens, you'll wonder why it ever seemed difficult!
