NIGHT CLASSES

The courses we are offering as night classes will run over a 10 week period with a 2 hour lesson per week.

All tools and equipment will be provided along with necessary safety wear.

Classes are open to all from the age of 14 years+.

The cost will be charged at £150 per person payable in advance and includes basic training materials and refreshments.

Students will be asked to purchase materials at a discounted price for extended project work.

It is strongly recommended that beginners and newcomers to woodturning begin with the basics of woodturning nightclass.

Basics of Woodturning

The aim of this course is to equip the student with the understanding and skills to use a lathe with confidence and produce good quality turned projects.

Areas covered in this course include;

• The safe use of tools and machinery
• Tools and their uses
• Sharpening tools
• Woods and their properties
• Chucking and work holding
• Introduction to spindle work
• Introduction to face plate work

A final project will allow the student to apply all they have learnt to produce their own piece of work to take away.

Bowl Turning

The aim of this course is to provide the student with a more in depth insight into bowl turning and the techniques used, to equip them with the skills and confidence to produce a quality piece of work.

Areas covered in this course;

• Properties and dynamics of wood
• Tools and techniques of cutting
• Design and form
• Winged and square bowls
• Natural edged bowls

A final project will give the student the opportunity to design and make their own individual piece of work to take away.

Spindle Turning

This course is designed to give the student a deeper insight into the techniques and skills used in spindle turning to equip them with confidence and skills to design and produce quality work.

Areas covered in this course;

• Properties of wood
• Applications of spindle turning
• Design and balance
• Tools and techniques
• Boring and copy turning
• Off centre work

The final project allows the student the chance to explore their own designs and produce a quality piece of work to take away.
