From Kilmorack Gallery….
“Welcome to Kilmorack Gallery's latest. In place of a summer exhibition, we have a series of mini-exhibitions to showcase work from our stable of artists, so new work arrives all the time with an artistic flow. Current work on the walls includes paintings by Becs Boyd, Robert McAulay and Christine Woodside, ceramics from Patricia Shone and stained glass lightboxes by Pinkie Maclure. In early August new work by James Newton Adams, Shona Barr and Peter Davis arrives.
We have also updated our video sections of the gallery's website. This is to allow for movement and a feeling of scale and sound to help bring the gallery and its work to you.
If you are looking for anything specific, please contact us... there is often much more from our stable of artists on exhibition, or filed away in our vaults and we would be happy to make it available or to offer advice.

From The Caithness Broch Project….
"Broch Project Site Update
“It has been some time since our last newsletter many of you may be wondering how things are progressing. Whilst it’s always preferable to check in when we reach significant milestones, I felt it was only right that we give you a more general update on how things are going. As I hope many of you will already be aware we have finally chosen our site at Flygla, a couple of miles North along the Causewaysmire from Latheron on the slopes of Beinn-a-Chielt.
Land Acquisition Update
We are thrilled to announce that we are making significant headway in acquiring funding for the land that will serve as the cornerstone of our future endeavours. In our pursuit to raise money to purchase the 200 acre site, we have submitted applications to four different funders to secure the necessary financial backing. Furthermore, we are committing £10,000 of our own funds as initial capital, underlining our commitment to this important cause. We are hopeful that we get some good news on this in the coming months and can begin with legal proceedings to purchase the site.
Crofting Commission
As some of you maybe aware, a portion of the land at Flygla is under crofting tenure. In a bid to de-croft that portion of our land we have submitted an application to the Crofting Commission. The feedback received signifies progress, and we are excited that the ball is now rolling in the right direction.
Partnering with Studio HHJV Architects:
As we continue to navigate the intricacies of securing our site and the wider brief for our plans, we are proud to have StudioHHJV Architects on board to assist us in shaping the vision for our new space. We will be working closely with them and their partners over the coming months to create the business case for our project, provisional costings and some concept design options for our visitor centre and amenities on site. Their expertise in, and dedication to, creating spaces that resonate with their surroundings will be invaluable as we move forward in this journey.
On the horizon
Ideally we would have liked to have hit milestones one at a time, but life seldom progresses in such predictable increments. It’s sometimes a case of fits and starts and this is certainly the case with the Broch Project. All things considered, it’s looking likely that de-crofting, site acquisition, submission of the planning application and producing the business case is all going to come together in relatively quick succession! We will finally have a home for our Broch and a fresh set of challenges to get stuck into.
We aren’t the only ones awaiting good news. The Flow Country’s UNESCO bid is due to be decided imminently. We look forward to the day when we welcome visitors to our Broch with a UNESCO world heritage site forming the backdrop exciting times ahead for us and for Caithness!
Warm regards,
Iain Maclean

More Archaeology…
I was going to say ‘A bit more Archaeology‘ – then it turned out to be much more than a ‘bit’….
