Decadence ……

This is on friend Carolyn’s FB page…….

What she writes, covers it…..

“Trump held a Great Gatsby-themed party last night while our government is shut down and people can't buy food. The Great Gatsby is a story about excess and greed, vividly depicting the materialism, extravagant parties, and decadent lifestyle of robber barons of the Roaring Twenties.”

My observations…..

That’s exactly what The Great Gatsby is about.

A quote which stayed with me from that book  is….

“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me.”

Another strong theme is represented by the huge advertising billboard featuring a pair of gigantic, bespectacled eyes – indicating that the characters, and our lives, are being watched.  The dust jacket of the first edition featured eyes watching over a garishly lit fairground

It’s almost as if Trump was doing this on purpose – but can we give him credit for being that well-read and observant?

I doubt that he knows enough to do this purposely, but someone does, and someone is cocking a snook at the American people.  Who might that be?

Jay Gatsby is very much aware of being ’new money’ and doesn’t want to appear vulgar.  That doesn’t appear to bother Trump!

One word – DECADENCE.  And not the soaking-in-a bubble-bath kind.

On the subject of parties – I find it very creepy that Epstein, the Grisly Maxwell woman and Weinstein were at Princess Beatrice’ 18th birthday party.

Very creepy indeed.

Indoor activities in Orkney

Orkney is a place where you can experience all kinds of weathers in a single day, especially at this time of year. So, if you’re planning a visit to the islands, it’s always handy to have some indoor options to hand, just in-case things get a little too ‘invigorating’ in the great outdoors. Don’t worry though, there is still so much to see and do here with a roof over your head, whether it’s in a coffee shop, distillery, or a Neolithic cairn. Check out some of our favourite indoor activities in Orkney.
