The Ness…..

The dig at the Ness of Brodgar is about to resume for its penultimate year….

After that the site we be closed and covered over.  I’ve previously had thoughts about the Garden of Brodgar…

Wednesday night, in my dreams, I was at the Ness – to be precise I was in Loch View – the house nearby…..

I was living there - with an awareness of what was under my feet – the rest of Structure 10…..

https://www.nessofbrodgar.co.uk/about/the-structures/structure-ten/

Various objects have been found to have been carefully placed in and under the walls of Structure 10, and I had an awareness of further objects carefully placed in the part of the structure which is under Loch View.  When or if they will ever come to light is now under question - but – they will still be there.  They’ve been there for a long time, and will be until/if they are found in the future.

Quoting Steve Miller again “Time keeps on slipping into the future….”http://www.spanglefish.com/berniesblog/blog.asp?blogid=16316

Then, I was standing by the two standing stones in the garden of Loch View – not in between them - I was tempted, but it didn’t seem like a good idea – didn’t know where it might take me!

I was standing, facing Hoy, with an awareness of the Stone’s connection with the Ness, and with Structure 10 in particular, and with what I had been aware of under my feet as I stood and walked about in Loch View.

When I woke up I was thinking about all this and wondering what will happen to Loch View when the dig finishes. It’s in the ownership/custodianship of the Orkney Heritage Society, so what happens will depend on their decisions.

I was thinking – it could be a small Interpretive Centre for the Ness?  Just some information boards - maybe copies of some of the finds, such as the EOASSK……

Maybe ‘manned’ by a volunteer - not a big deal, but something which can let folk know what is there, what has been happening during the dig, what has been found so far – and what might be there, right under their feet.

And… outside, maybe a plan which shows the position of the Ness in the landscape.

Just some thoughts.  And hopes.
