Patience…. Nature Notes…. To Find A Tree….‘Scotland, Jamaica and Slavery ‘- Part Two….

by Bernie Bell - 09:03 on 19 May 2023

Patience….

Thursday morning we looked out to see, across the Bay, two large Liners arriving in tandem -  trailing smoke behind them…..

Then another arrived and ‘parked up’ at Hatston….

Making a grand total of THREE big Liners disgorging their passengers for a day in Orkney – with associated big coaches clogging the narrow roads …..

(I should mention that it was a misty day)

I pictured what it would be like in Kirkwall, thought again about an exhibition that I very much want to see in the Museum there…

…and reminded myself of one of my Mum’s sayings… “Patience is a Virtue – practice it’.

I’ll keep on practicing – hoping to see the exhibition in September before it finishes.

Nature Notes….

On the same morning, while scowling at the Liners, I noticed a Robin perched at the top of one of the larger sycamores in the ‘Jungle’ at the side of our garden….

A few branches down from the Robin, two Goldfinches.  Then a Red-poll arrived  - a recent addition to the garden birds and becoming a regular visitor.  Also a small bird that I think might be Mrs. Redpoll – about the same size, quite strong markings, but not as colourful.

Then, Mr. Blackbird arrived to stake his claim and the smaller birds flew away.  He sees the jungle as being his territory – we think that the Blackbird pair are nesting there.

Then - Auber’s the Aristocratic Pheasant paced by along the other side of the fence at the bottom of the garden.

Three Liners – many birds.

Friend Wendy believes that birds are messengers, and we should pay attention to them – I can’t help wondering what seeing all those birds within a few minutes, mostly in one tree, while being cross about the liners,  is meant to indicate to us?
