About them

Godin guitars are assembled in Richmond, Quebec and Berlin, New Hampshire factories. The necks and bodies are all made in their original location in La Patrie, Quebec(I dont know if this is changed as site saying all made completeley at a single site).

The upshot of this is that I have a USA made guitar, assembled from Canadian parts.

Since 1972, Canadian guitar manufacturer Robert Godin has been designing and producing guitars that are a hit among music greats. Artists like Deep Purple's Ritchie Blackmore, Metallica's Kirk Hammett, and Queen's Brian May are just a few of the names that you'll find on Godin's roster.

They are also know for  other brands which include acoustic guitar lines: Seagull, Simon & Patrick, Norman, LaPatrie and Art & Lutherie.

After 25 years of guitar building they still hand-finish the necks on every Godin guitar. In fact, from fretting to sanding, there is more handwork in Godin guitars than you would find in most custom shops.

Godin Single Cutaway

If you do not know Godin, they produce guitars in the US and Canada and are probably the best bang for the buck in a North American Guitar. My SD solid body features a gorgeous cherry burst top(Desert Red), a flat & thin neck with dot markers and great action!!, single-single -humbucker configuration, 1 ea. volume & tone, 3 - way selector.  The hum bucker is a Seymour Duncan. (Oh  Yeah....)

The Godin SD is a hybrid rather than a strat type.  The SD has the bridge and pickups of a Strat style  grafted onto the curvaceous body that is Godin’s signature  (and a little bit Gibson Special-ish). It is, if such a thing is possible, a refinement of a classic. It ditches the just-plain-irritating (and also ugly) top-mounted jack plate, the too-close-to-the-strings volume knob placement and instead opts for a side-mounted jack and global tone and volume controls, decluttering the top. It is further hybridised by having a 24 ¾ “ scale (the measurement between the bridge and the nut). The SD 22 combines the easy feel of a short scale (24¾") with the added snap of a rock maple neck. The short scale reduces string tension, which provides easy string bending and augments the low frequency response. The compact feel of the neck and the diagonal radius carved into the body produces exceptional balance and comfort.
In short, this guitar is fun to play, and lends itself to classic rock and R&B sounds. The SD Leaftop has a Premium Grade veneer of highly figured Maple. Maple or rosewood fingerboards are optional in all colors The Godin  alnico magnets are standard but I have a Seyolmur Duncan humbucker usually reseved for their custom models,. An  Alnico 2 in the middle position, and Alnico 3 for the neck position.

This makes it like Gibsons and almost every steel-strung acoustic guitar in the world. This is a Good Thing for those of us who grew up playing guitars of that scale and never really enjoyed adapting to Fender’s 25 ½” malarky. Combined with the skinny-but-not-too-skinny rock maple neck, it makes for an easy, smooth playing experience

It’s a compromise, of course. You no longer look like Hank Marvin, Buddy Holly or Eric Clapton. You might, however, look like your own man.

You retain, crucially, the in-between-pickups sounds. With a maple neck and a traditional Strat-style sprung vibrato bridge, it covers most of the sonic territory of a Strat with ease. With the Seymour Duncan humbucker replacing the factory one in the bridge position, this particular one has an authentic rock voice as well.
