GAGGING ORDER BY AVBC CHIEF EXECUTIVE

On the 28th March at Ripley.  Members of the public and delegation from Amber Valley S O S & Alfreton  S O S attended a full meeting of the Amber Valley Borough Council.
At these meetings, the public are allowed to put their name down for a 3 minute slot, to voice their own opinion on any subject. Even if someone else has voiced a similar opinion before.
This has been allowed for years.
Last night,  Mr Carney (Chief Executive AVBC)  imposed a new rule that  if the subject has been raised within the last 6 months, you can not speak on it again. Whilst it is not known if this is permissible or legal, it strikes us that this is effectively "gagging" the public of Alfreton and Alfreton S O S from voicing our objection to the Outseats farm proposal.
It  can not be seen as democratic. This is the only way that the general public has a chance to voice their opinions directly to their elected body. After 6 months who in the council is going to remember what was said by the public. We in Alfreton need to be heard on the Outseats Farm proposal.

It would be nice to have a balanced council and a chief Executive that listens to the people.
