  1. Welcome and Apologies 
 
The Chair welcomed everyone to the meeting. Apologies are noted above.
She also informed the meeting that nomination forms for the Wick Community Council Election will be available from the Highland Council (HC) service point from Monday 8th October.

  1.  Matters Arising
 
Councillor Smith has managed to get two signatories and is awaiting a third to release the money from the Community Fund. He was also given the account number and the sort code. 
 
The chair and various others will meet with Ian Moncrieff from HC regarding road issues when David Sutherland returns from holiday.
 
Berriedale is now to be closed for maintenance work on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday nights from the 4th October.
 
4.     Wick High School
 
Councillor Fernie requested that WHS be pushed up the agenda as he was feeling unwell. He reported that the consultation for the new build closed on the 1st October. HMIE will report in mid November and HC will produce their report by the end of November. Members of the public can submit comment in December and January which will then be considered on the 13th January. The decision on where to site the new school will be decided and agreed by February.
An external consultant will be appointed in November and preliminary design work will begin. Design work will take place during throughout 2011; construction will begin in 2012 with aimed completion in 2014.

Building has started on the site beside the Trinkie. 
There has been no movement on the planned flats in Browns Place.

  1. Wick Paths Report
 
Jenny Bruce is hosting walks around Wick and Pulteneytown during the Mod. Councillor Smith pointed out that if the paths group is meant to be a Community Council sub group then they will need to look at recruiting new members as most of the existing paths members are no longer community councillors.
 
  1. Baskets
 
Wick won a silver award in the Scotland in Bloom competition; the certificate can be seen in the window of Turner’s shop in High Street, where it will stay until the Mod is over, then it will be displayed in all the windows of the organisations that were involved and eventually it will hang in the Assembly Rooms. Congratulations were offered to the Baskets Committee.

Doreen Turner told the meeting that there seemed to be fewer cars using the precinct as a thoroughfare. 
 
  1. AOCB
 
HC has plans to move the refuse collections from weekly to fortnightly but there will be more recycling options and pickups. It is still to be decided whether or not the streetlights will be dimmed at night.
