Our Projects

Friday 11 July 2008 saw the Trust’s first project come to fruition:

Regional Conference on ADHD
With an international speaker

The Trust organised a one day conference entitled “A day in the life of…..” on the subject of ADHD.
Over 200 delegates attended this event, including teachers, learning support assistants, social workers, parents/carers and representatives from the Health Authority, local education authorities and many other organisations.

The aim of this project was to raise awareness of ADHD, enabling the wider community and a range of providers to understand, meet the needs and raise the standards for children and young people with this condition.

As a result of this event we are aiming to establish a regional network of support and training around the issues of ADHD, and we held our first network meeting in November.

Such was the success of the conference, that a second conference on the subject of Autism, Asperger's Syndrome and ADHD was held on Friday 10 July 2009 at South East Essex College (See News Tab for a report on the event).  This conference was also so successful that a number of potential delegates had to be turned away.  A highly successful conference was held on 9th July 2010, the theme being "Sleep difficulties, occupational therapy, effects on families and schools - a way forward". (See News Tab for a report on the event).

Other specific projects we aim to get underway in the coming months include:

Specialist After School Club 3.00pm –7.00pm
For pupils with a range of complex needs including ASD / ADHD

NOW LAUNCHED

In January 2009 The St. Christopher Extended After School Club was launched.

Research was undertaken with parents/carers of children at The St. Christopher School which established that there was a demand for after school care of this nature, and particularly at this time of day.

The club runs from Monday to Friday, accommodating up to 6 children.  Each day is allocated to a specified age range.  It is currently only available to pupils of the school, however the Trust aims to undertake further research to establish the need for this provision in the local community and investigate costs (staffing, premises etc) to make this facility more widely available.

Sponsoring a bed at Christopher’s Cottage

Christopher's Cottage is a six bedroom respite facility for children and young people with learning difficulties between the ages of 5 and 18.  It is situated in the grounds of the school.

The Trust will raise funds to access respite care for those children & young people who do not currently receive care e.g. by sponsoring a bed a Christopher's Cottage.
