Message BoardWelcome to the SLRC Message Board. If you want to team up for transport, let others know about a training night or day out...or just want to explain why you ran so badly in your last event - here's the place to do it. Food! Just an early warning to all Skye runners - not just SLRC members. Skye runners always provide soup/sandwiches/teas etc for the Skye half marathon. We hope for a big turnout this year so we need more 'goodies'. I will send a 'reminder flyer' to as many runners as possible but please mention to all runners that we would appreciate their help and support on the 14th June. Thanks! Posted by wilma on 13 May 2008 Balmacara Hill Race Balmacara Day takes place on Saturday 10th May. There will be the usual Hill Race, registration by 1.15pm, race starts at 1.30pm. Last year one of our members won so come on guys, we've got a record to keep up! Cheers, Sarah Posted by Sarah Kay on 30 April 2008 Gorilla in the mist conditions didn't deter six (one more than last year) turning up for this great wee race. Early race leader Scott Kennedy gracefully got lost and ended up on 'top of some hill', the wrong one unfortunately, leaving the rest of us to battle it out. Kirsten had warned me that I had to put in a good performance as she had passed up tap dancing, yet again for my 'selfish habit'. Luckily, I got first place and am taking her out for a slap up meal at Plockton Shores. Two in a row, championie. Posted by Neil T on 10 May 2008 Well done that man! I think you must issue everyone with the wrong instructions and a map of Yorkshire or something Neil, either way congrats and well done. Enjoy the meal...again Posted by kevind on 11 May 2008 "...gracefully got lost...". Like it! Neil's pre-race instructions of "Follow the path out of the trees then head directly up the big scree-covered face to the summit" were followed to the letter. Unfortunately, as Neil mentioned, it was the wrong path and the wrong scree-covered face (I did begin to wonder when I started rubbing my nose on the ground in front of me...). And nobody mentioned the arrowson the MTB course! Driving from Kyle to Balmacara yesterday in clear weather and looking up at the correct hill, my error seemed all the more ridiculous! Well done again Neil... PS. I got a bottle of Blaven ale when I crossed the line, despite race entry being free and not actually even completing the course! Posted by Scott K on 12 May 2008 The fort full mara heh anyone out there want a piece of the action? I am running first full marathon for 20 years. Is this wise? It is the Lochaber Sun 27th and it is for charity- the Catherine McKichan Trust. This is a memorial to a girl who tragically died the day she should have graduated from St Andrews and her parents set up a charity to sponsor students. Anyone wanting to give us a couple of quid??-otherwise I'll send Luigi and the boys round. You can win a miniature garden (or booze/chocs) by guessing my finishing time -if ever. I know you are out there!!! Come on!! slan, Douglas Strachan Posted by dug on 17 April 2008 Isle of Skye Half Marathon I am very excited to be registered for this year Half Marathon and getting to run through some of your amazing country side. I am coming from Canada to participate in your event and look forward to meeting many of you - hopefully in the pub! Take care and keep up the miles - Remember - "We Love Hills" - Alastair Taylor - Toronto Canada - eh!
