SLRC - Skye and Lochalsh Running Club

SLRC - Skye and Lochalsh Running and Athletics Club to give it its full title - was formed in September 2002 with the express purpose of promoting running for enjoyment in our local area.

Since that time the Club has been continually active.  Now, in order to encourage more people of all standards and speeds to come along, the Wednesday evening meeting time has now been changed to 5.15pm.  Meet at Portree High School.

As well as club nights, members regularly travel to races elsewhere in the country, teaming up for shared lifts and mutual support.  Also the club has actively been involving in charity fund-raising with a sponsored round Skye relay run in 2005 which brought in £2440 for Macmillan Cancer Care. More recently, again for the same cause, a group of hardy club runners completed a 235 mile relay which took them out to the Western Isles and back again , with a little help from the ferry of course!!  Altogether a grand total of £2,186 was collected.

SLRC also runs a popular winter series of races, open to all whether club members or not, which take place at a variety of venues around Skye and Lochalsh.  In addition this year a series of week-end runs, often off-road are likely to be taking place.  Further details about both races and runs are available on our Calendar page.
