Please sign up for the Thursday BBO nights by sending us your BBO userID to register your interest.  Full joining instructions are below:

Instructions for the Thursday night BBO gentle tournament starting on Thursday 7th October at 7.00pm

A warm welcome to our regular Thursday night gentle tournament on BBO.  BBO is very simple to access if you haven’t used it before.  Just go to your web browser and type in www.bridgebaseonline.com.  Click on the login/register button and either login if you are an existing user or register if you are a new user.  Please make a note of your BBO user ID and password and send us your user name.

PLEASE SEND US YOUR BBO USER NAME IF YOU ARE INTENDING TO PLAY IN THE THURSDAY TOURNAMENT – WE NEED TO ADD YOU TO THE BBO TOURNAMENT LIST IN ORDER FOR YOU TO PLAY.  SEND TO: academy@education.sbu.org.uk

Adding your partner as a ‘friend’

It is always a good idea to add your partner as a ‘friend’ on BBO – that way you can see when they are logged in which is useful when registering for the tournament.  To add your partner as a friend, just click on the ‘people’ tab and type in their BBO user name where it says ‘add friend’.  If you want to check that you have been successful, just slide the bar where it says ‘show offline’ and you will see your partner’s name with a red dot next to it (assuming they are offline), otherwise you will see them immediately if they are online.

Purchasing BBO dollars

In order to register for a BBO tournament you will need to purchase BBO dollars in advance.  The BBO tournament we will be running will cost $1 BBO per tournament – roughly equivalent to 75/80p.  To buy BBO dollars you need to click on the BB$ icon (top right) and follow their instructions.  (you will need your BBO username and password to hand).  The minimum purchase amount is BB$10.

Registering for the tournament

You need to register each week for the tournament.  Make sure you have enough BB$ in your account (BB$1 is the cost of a tournament).  Your BB$ balance will flash up every time you log in.  Make sure your partner is also online by clicking on the ‘people’ tab and seeing if your partner has logged in.  You BOTH need to be logged in for the registration process to work, so I suggest that you call beforehand to agree a time to register.  Click on ‘competitive’ from the main/home page, then click on ‘All tournaments’.  Type ‘SBU’ in the search bar (top right) and you will see all the SBU tournaments that are about to take place.  Our tournament will be Host: SBU_H_DIST Title: ‘Gentle Pairs’.

Click on ‘Gentle pairs’, type in your partner’s name and click ‘invite’.  Your partner will get your invitation, provided that they are also online.  They need to accept the invitation when it pops up on their screen.  You can register for a tournament up to 2 hours before the tournament starts.  We would recommend that you register 15 minutes before the start to give you time to sort out any hiccups if one or other of you has logging in issues.

The tournament starts at 7.00pm on a Thursday night.  So please register no later than 6.45pm.  We will run each Thursday night from Thursday 7th October through to Thursday 16th December.  We plan to take a short break for Christmas and start up again in January. You do not need to be a member of Highland district to join in the tournament, but you do need to be a member of your local SBU affiliated club.  You may find that occasionally you are at a 'sit out' table.  This can happen when we don't have complete tables and need to run the tournament with one 'half' table.  In this instance, please bear with us - you will be be back playing the boards again as soon as the round moves on.  Please contact the Summer Academy if you need any assistance with any of the above: academy@education.sbu.org.uk
