Most of the letters are from Violet's elder sister Kathleen (b. 1884), who lived on the Isle of Man, where her husband Berkie (b. 1877) had worked for the IoM Government; they had a daughter Fenella (b. 1919), who married Norman in 1943, and they had a daughter Caroline.  Berkie had retired in about 1938, but had been brought back into office during the War.  Kathleen was known as Katty, but her nephew Gervas as a small boy had called her "Ardie" - his rendition of "Auntie" - so she was still often called or referred to by that name.

Ralph was Violet's younger son, Diana his wife, and their three childen.

Violet's husband Gerard was the second of four sons and a half-sister:-

Arthur died in WW1; he had married Bridget, and they had Evie, Charlie and Arthur.

Ernest, who married Dorothy, and they had Rosie.

Wilfrid, who married Maud, and they had Michael and Molly

Hilda, whose husband was killed in acton in WW1; they had a daughter Henriette.   Hilda was married again, to Jack, but they had no children
