MATCH REPORTS

V BISHOPMILL UTD FRIDAY 22ND MAY 2009

by Mike Pollard - Co-manager - 21:20 on 24 May 2009

Elginshire Cup Final

City’s remarkable first season in Junior football finished with their second trophy this season.

In a very entertaining game, which was watched by a good sized crowd, City won the Elginshire Cup 3-0 against Bishopmill Utd.

Pollard said “I can’t put in to words how we all feel at Inverness City. Only three weeks ago things didn’t look promising – but credit to the boys, their never say die attitude saw them get their just rewards.”

Pollard added “I must thank all the support we’ve had this season which has been just fantastic. I’d also like to thank all the people behind the scenes who have played a major part in this club being a big success this year.”

The first half was a tense cup final but City did look the stronger side from the first whistle. With Inverness trying to play as much football as they could, it was only a matter of time before they found their first goal. Only 15 minutes in to the game, the ball was played wide to Maclennan who smartly passed the ball inside for the advancing Colin Mason to beat three men and square his pass to McCraw who had an easy tap in to make the score 1-0.

City had plenty other opportunities to further the score but were unable to find their second in the first half.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first where City’s dominance took over. With only seven minutes gone in the second half, a corner whipped in by Gary Miller was flicked on at the front post by Colin Mason which found an un-marked Pearce at the back post who volleyed the ball in to the net to claim City’s second goal.

Two minutes later, Pearce played a defence splitting pass to put Turner through who crossed the ball for McCraw to claim his second and City’s third.

With City comfortably three goals in the lead, they saw the match out to claim their double.
