MATCH REPORTS

V NAIRN ST NINIAN 9TH MAY 2009

by MIke Pollard - Co-manager - 22:24 on 10 May 2009

Nairn St Ninian v Inverness City

Scotscoup Division 2

The saying “It’s not over til the fat lady sings” rang so true for City. With other results needing to go City’s way the Inverness side also had to go out and earn three points. Pollard said “Myself and Stevie must have gone through every emotion – we just have to take every game as it comes and not get ahead of ourselves.” Pollard added “This performance must be one of the best we have produced this season. We have been working really hard on our passing game and we’ve also worked on our defence and this has showed with a clean sheet.”

With so much at stake, City had a point to prove. Nairn St Ninian were not going to let City have it all their own way and City had to wait until the 40th minute for Gary Miller to hit a cross come shot to find it’s way in to the net to give City the lead. Three minutes later, young Danny Murdoch delivered a cross for Colin Mason to coolly slot City two ahead.

In the second half City squandered a lot of chances and they had to wait until the 86th minute for Kevin Mapplebeck to be taken down in the box. Stevie Sanderson made sure he took the penalty and he made no mistake in putting City three up. Gary Miller delivered an inch perfect cross for Mapplebeck to arrive at the back post and head City further in the lead on the 88th minute. Only a minute later, Sanderson claimed his second by placing the ball in the bottom corner to finish the rout.

Pollard finished by saying “The boys deserve this chance. These players train in all kinds of weather for the love of the game and for this I hope they get the support for the final game at Nairn’s showground next Saturday.”
