About us

Welcome

Welcome to Fàs Mòr – we hope your child will enjoy his/her time with us. This information leaflet is designed to provide you with important information concerning the running of the centre. We operate to agreed policies and it is important that parents/carers read and understand these and comment where they feel changes may be appropriate. A list of Policies is shown in this page and copies of the policies are held by the Manager.

We are a charitable organisation; therefore the fees that parents/carers pay provide the salaries and running costs of the facility.

Mission Statement:
Fàs Mòr will provide a safe, permanent environment to benefit children and young people who both reside in and visit the South Skye area. Our mission is to promote the welfare, further the health and advance the education of children aged twelve years and under, with qualified, registered care, and in a relaxed and stimulating environment, through the medium of Gaelic.

Admissions Policy:
Fàs Mòr hold an open policy on admissions, promoting equal opportunities and seeking to eliminate discrimination on the grounds of religion, race, disability, health, gender or any other basis.

Snacks:
We will provide a light, healthy snack after school during term time and in the morning and afternoon sessions of holiday/in-service day care. However, for full day sessions (during holiday/in-service days), children must also bring a packed lunch. Please ensure that your child’s lunchbox is clearly identified with your child’s name. Please note that we do not permit sweets and fizzy drinks as this contravenes our healthy eating policy. You should inform us on the registration form, of any food allergies your child has.

Clothing & Personal Property
All clothing and personal items should be clearly labelled with your child’s name. It is requested that children bring soft soled shoes or slippers to wear inside the building. Please also make sure that your child has outdoor wear appropriate to the season.

We understand that some children may wish to bring ‘comfort object’ e.g. soft toy or blanket, could these please be named. Please do not bring small toys which may get lost or broken.

Code of conduct:
We encourage the children to respect their environment, each other and the adults who work within the centre. We aim to endorse a consistent, fair and friendly approach to promoting good behaviour. We appreciate that this is the children’s leisure time and therefore keep rules to a minimum. The code of conduct for children is implemented in partnership with the children themselves.

Activities:
Fàs Mòr aims to offer a wide variety of activities to aid children’s development. Any ideas that parents/carers may have, or donations of toys, equipment (which are in good working order), are always appreciated. There is an area set aside for children to do homework and other quiet activities. Please inform the staff if you wish your child to do their homework, although we will respect the child’s wishes if he/she refuses to do their homework. We will also not sign homework books.

Outings:
Parents/carers will be notified in advance of any planned trips and will be asked to sign a consent form. Impromptu trips to the park, walks etc may take place when adult/child ratios permit this.

Health & Hygiene
In the interest of general health your child should not attend the facility if suffering from a severe cold, diarrhoea, conjunctivitis or any other communicable disease. Please do not bring a sick child into Fàs Mòr.
Should a child become ill, every effort will be made to contact you. Fàs Mòr reserves the right to remove a child to hospital in an emergency.

All infectious diseases should be notified so that we can warn other parents.

Medication:
If your child normally requires medication, please note this on the Registration Form with guidelines as to its use. If your child has been prescribed short-term medication, we must receive a completed medicine form from you and the child, if old enough, must administer it themselves. Any medication should be given to the Centre Manager who will place it with the First Aid box for supervised use as necessary. Inhalers are the responsibility of the children and should be carried by them, as normal, staff should be advised. For more information please ask a member of staff for a copy of our Health and Safety policy.

Staff:
All staff are either registered, or in the process of becoming registered with Disclosure Scotland (background check to ensure suitability for access to children). Until registration is finalised, individuals will not be left alone with the children at any time. There is always a qualified first aider available on the premises.

Parent/Carer Involvement:
We appreciate parent/carer interest and involvement in all aspects of the centre. This may take the form of joining the management committee, accompanying us on outings or supporting fundraising. Please speak to the Manager or Assistant Manager if you would like to become actively involved in the centre. Volunteers are selected at the discretion of the Board of Directors.

Problems and Complaints:
If you have a problem or complaint regarding Fàs Mòr, please contact us immediately. You should, in the first instance, speak to the Manager or his/her deputy. It is the remit of the Manager (or his/her deputy) to report any grievances/suggestions (and their outcome) to the management committee. Alternatively, or if you are not satisfied by the response, you may put your complaint in writing. A written response to any letter of grievance/suggestion will be forthcoming with 10 working days, following the date of the next available management meeting.
If you are not satisfied with the resolution or alternatively, you may take your concern or complaint directly to the Care Commission.
You can contact the Care Commission (local office) on: 01463 227630, or the Regional office on 01224 793870. The Care Commission is the regulatory body for childcare in Scotland.
