Surveys

Every butterfly survey we do is tailored to suit our clients’ needs, project and location. Whether you are looking for a single species or population survey, habitat advice or regular monitoring we have the expertise to help.

We use standardised techniques such as establishing a transect, this ensures the survey can be repeated in future to monitor species or population changes with habitat or management changes.

Surveys we have previously undertaken include Pearl-bordered Fritillary and Chequered Skipper transects.

We offer a full package of data collection, analysis and reporting services, with particular emphasis on habitat management advice for butterfly species or populations.

Please use our contact form if we can help you or advise with conserving butterflies on your land.

About Butterflies

Butterflies are increasingly threatened by habitat loss such as the decline of wildflowers and the use of pesticides. They are bright, day flying and sensitive to changes in their habitat so make ideal indicators for the health of the environment.

Recently there has been a lot of excitement about the re-introduction of the Chequered Skipper to parts of England. This lovely butterfly had become extinct in England. We are privileged to have worked with several of the remaining Scottish populations, but their disappearance from England highlights how easy it is to lose a species to land use change and pesticides.
