Jeremy was born on 30 June 1938 in Edgbaston, the only child of (Henry) Arthur Clay and Pauline nee Atkinson.  He was educated at Eton and the Royal Agricultural College, Cirencester.  He was married aged 33 on 12 June 1971 in Alveston, Warks, to Susan (Caroline) Chapman, aged 27.  They had two children :-

Nicola (Olivia)                                 was born on 12 July 1974 in Stratford‑on‑Avon, and died on 8 June 1992 in Malvern at the age of 17.  She was educated at Malvern.  She was walking with friends at school, when she suddenly collapsed, and died within a few minutes, from ??
