New month, new start!

Here we are doing something we haven't done for years:

Winding wool, do you remember when ALL wool came in hanks, and children were pressed into service to do the winding??  And getting into trouble for making the balls too tight, or dropping weary arms when they tired of holding the skein still?

THIS particular hank we saw last saw hanging on the clothes drier in Chris Croft's garden that memorable day when we were shown how the dyeing was done.  This was a plain yellow die (much to Chris' disgust, she never just dyes with the basic colours) but with the ever-changing Herdwick wool every hank was different.  This is the yellowest of them, and we have another which turned out a rather good green.  (So good, in fact, Chris has squirrelled the rest away for a project she is turning over in her mind.)  The pure Swaledale which went in the same bath did come out yellow, but this is much more fun!

Ready to cast on now!
