Re-synchronising your fob

Instructions below give details of how to re-synchronise or re-pair your fob to your car. This MAY or MAY NOT be necessary after a repair.

IN ALL CASES, please test the remote FIRST.

JAGUAR X Type:

Programming or pairing a new or old fob for the X-Type is a very simple job. Follow these steps exactly and you should have no problems.
If your fob does not work when you try it after a repair, please follow the instructions below to re-program it to your car.
Please test the fob FIRST, you may not need to do this.

Before attempting to reprogram a remote to your car (using any method described here), look carefully at the ignition barrel. There should be a small shutter which closes when you remove the key from the ignition. The car's security module uses this to recognise when a key is inserted or removed from the ignition. If this doesn't completely close, you will not be able to reprogram remotes to the car. In this instance, a small spray of maintenance or lubricating spray such as WD40 or silicone spray, followed by inserting and removing the key a few times should solve the problem. Sometimes it's worth giving it a spray, inserting and removing the key a few times, then leaving it to penetrate for a couple of hours. DO NOT use oil in the ignition, as this leaves a residue which will cause dust and dirt to stick inside the ignition.

1.)You will need ALL keyfobs you want to work with the car. Reprogramming only one fob WILL cause any other fobs to STOP working.
2.)Get in the car and close the drivers side door.
3.)Put the key into the ignition and turn to position I.
4.)Wait 5 seconds
5.)Turn the key quickly to position II then back to I four times.
6.)You should hear a single chime.
7.)Remove the Key
8.)For each Keyfob in rapid succesion. Press any single button on the keyfob you wish to pair, you should hear a chime as each Keyfob is paired with the security system. After the chime do the next Keyfob.
9.)Check operation of each Keyfob.

JAGUAR XJ / JAGUAR XK:

Please check your remote first, you may not need to do this. You WILL need ALL of the fobs that you want to work with the car. Reprogramming only one fob WILL cause other fobs to STOP working.

This method of programming fobs works most of the time.
1. Hold the stalk to high beam position insert key and turn the ignition to position I.
2. Flash the high beams 4 times and you should hear a chime.
3. Press the button on the remote and you should hear another chime confirming it is programmed.
4. press a button on any other remotes you want to program to the car, one at a time.
5. Remove key from ignition, then check the operation of each fob.

If that doesn’t work, the method below should work.

1. Open driver door (door must be open throughout the programming process).
2. Pull turn signal stalk to the headlight flash position and hold.
3. Insert ignition key and turn to auxiliary position (position I), then release the turn signal stalk.
4. Flash headlights five times (there will be an acknowledgment chirp from the sounder.
Note: Up to 5 transmitters can be programmed. Push the second transmitter button directly after programming the first, etc. Do not repeat the complete sequence as the first transmitter will be erased.

Mercedes Benz A-Class

This procedure will allow you to resynchronise a remote fob which has already been programmed to your car. This is usually necessary after changing the batteries in the fob, after a fob repair, and sometimes after the car battery has been removed. If you follow these instructions, you chould have no problems re-synchronising your remote fob.

1.) Place the key in the ignition, and turn to position II (so that all of the dash lights come on, but do not start the car)

2.) Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

3.) Within 10 seconds, press and hold the lock button on the remote,

4.) Whilst still holding the lock button, quickly press the unlock button 5 times.

Your remote should now work to lock/unlock the car.
