The Willows Golf Club, Saskatoon

There are a few clubs in the Saskatoon area and it was a case of picking the one that looked the nicest, ordering a taxi and going for it.

On the outside Its a very posh looking club and has a very large staff, my impression was that they employed mainly students on a seasonal bases in the pro shop, as starters, and in the clubhouse.  Although they are polite I felt in a good way the poshness was just window dressing to make the members feel better.

There are 36 holes and I opted to play the lakes and island 18 mainly because that's their tough 18 and they have an Augusta like 17th signature hole which drew me to the course to start with.

It is certainly a challengeing course, ball placement is essential on a lot of the holes.  On the front nine the greens were in a poor state when I played, very patchy and bumpy which caused me to drop a few shots in my 5 over round and miss numerous birdie oportunities.  In fact I am sure the greens had a disease which I can't remember the name of.

The par 5s have good risk reward options for the bigger hitters with well placed bunkers and water.  They have a 600yrd par 5, I had an eagle put on which was the highlight of the round as it was playing wind against.

All in all I enjoyed my game at the Willows and would certainly go back for another game ,loved the par 3 17th, green surrounded by the lake you can just imagine the pressure leading at Augusta and having to drop the ball onto a lightning fast green with tiger, watching, waiting, for his prey to slip up allowing him to pounce on any weakness.
