Spanglefish Gold Status Expired 31/03/2009.

A little about me "the trucker" Since starting my career as a lorry driver in May 1995.  Donald G Watt was my first employer and to be honest nearly my last!
For me truck driving certainly did not come easy, probably not easy for the boss either... i think we nearly gave up on each other a number of times, thankfuly we stuck with it and to my surprise, started to enjoy the job and appreciated more, how lucky I was to have such a good job.  Working for and with, many very experienced drivers who taught me a lot, I wont mention any names but if they are reading this they will know who they are.  Timber haulage certainly is not an easy job, it is at times very challanging but also very enjoyable and you miss it when you do not have to go "off road" to get a load.  Donald decided to take early retirement due to ever increasing fuel prices in June 1999 and I hope he is enjoying his retirement and that Jean is not becoming a golf "widow"
It is only now that i realise what a good grounding I had when I first started driving arctics which has made, i think the job very much easier for me. For that Donald and fellow workmates I thankyou for your time and patience.

Ally Ferguson, Ferguson Transport  Spean Bridge was my next employer I had known Ally for
a number of years through shinty (check out the links page for more info on shinty) Although Ally worked differently from Donald I enjoyed my time spent with Ferguson Transport and did a number of different jobs that I didnt get a chance to do with my last employer, The only time i seemed happy was on the very odd ocasion that i got into the woods for a load.  A vacancy came up on one of the timber lorries working a hiab and was fortunate enough get "promoted" to do some real timber trucking.  I had never worked a timber crane before, Ally gave me some tuition and away I went.  It was difficult at first but an exellent job,
Unfortunately for whatever reason I spent only 3-4 days a month on the crane and the rest of it on general haulage work.  After a year and a half i decided to give up trucking altogether and try a new career.   A course booked in Aberdeen with RGIT and off to the rigs, make some real money and have lots of time off!! Didnt work out as planned funny how that happens eh! 3 trips offshore with Salamis and that was the end of my new career why i dont know they promised me work but it never came.

Surprise surprise back to the lorries funny how it gets under your skin and you miss it no matter how much you think you wont.  I did a number of different jobs mainly working for agencies in different parts of the country from Edinburgh,Glasgow to London.  Eventually it was time for a real job again I phoned John Riddel and was collected at the Newtonmore truck stop and taken to my knew home a nice 144 Scania pushing out god knows how many horse definately at least a ton more than the badge said it should! So far without doubt the best trucking job I have ever had great boss and plenty of work with no hassles.  Due to personal problems, my mind telling me to leave trucking and do something else, I resigned but off course my departure from trucking didnt last long!!! A stint with Palmer and Harvey in Inverness delivering caged goods to shops and garages in the highlands, again an exellent job, due to 2hrs travelling everyday I left them and worked for BEAR in Kingussie doing
road maintenance and driving the snow plough enjoyable when there is snow on the road. BEAR lost the contract to Scotland Transerv the job was good home every night
and plenty of time off but due to a dream of driving in Canada and the USA i searched for a suitable trucking firm in Canada (any one that would take me!!) Found one
and the rest as they say is history.....
