Wales vs the Marches
08 July 2012

The RFC supplied a raft of players to the annual Wales vs marches competition, which was hosted this year by the Marches at the Seven Stars at Clehonger. Pat Daviss played with Basil & Simon from the Wheatsheaf PC, Mike North, Dai Bevan & Ray Williams formed an all RFC team.  Paul Mayfield played with his Grand prix team mates (Jim Page and Gareth of Brecon PC), whilst Tansy Mayfield played with her Celtic teammates, Ian Bailey & Julie Bailey.

Despite the terrible weather during the week, the day was largely bright and dry, with the sun putting in a rare appearance for much of the day.  Each side provided 8 triples teams, with 6 rounds to be played across the day.  With one notable exception, the RFC made a very positive contribution to Wales’ tally: Paul’s team and the all-RFC all-stars each won 4 of their 6 games, whilst Pat’s team won 3 of their 6.  Tansy’s team, however, seemed to be doing their best for the Marches (despite their billing as Wales 1) and had a truly rotten day winning only 2 of their 6 games.  However, the remainder of the squad had done more than enough to make Wales the winners of the annual challenge with 32 wins to 16.
